The past week started well with Sunday and Monday being good fishing days but the strong winds that dominated mid week put paid to angling although Friday and Saturday improved to give good fishing conditions and excellent catches. The seasonal fight between lures and fishing in the upper levels of the water column continued. The lure fisherman is beginning to get an edge with buzzers and wet flies coming a close second whilst the dry fly exponent has had to take a back seat.
Once colour and, more importantly, speed of retrieve had been mastered, the fishery yielded good catches with the best recorded falling to;
P Keir, Fyvie, 22 fish, (black fritz), A Gibson, Gardenstown, 21 fish, (various lures), M Troup, Methlick, 17 fish, (wet flies), W Gray, Largue, 17 fish, (buzzers), G Ward, Banff, 15 fish, (bloodworm), M Guest, Shropshire, 9 fish, (dry flies), A Murray, Gardenstown, 8 fish, (black fritz/budgie), N Thomson, Turriff, 8 fish, (buzzers), J West, Fraserburgh, 8 fish, (cat's whiskers/black fritz).
The coming week has been forecast as mixed but fishing conditions remain favourable with only occasional rain and winds should be much lighter.
Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is a Troutmaster water and is open seven days from 8:00am til 6:00pm for this week but winter times will start from next week with closing times being dictated by light conditions. Novices and visitors are welcome and booking is not necessary. Boats (where required), rods and tackle is available for hire at the fishery.
