Tuesday heralds the first day of October and with temperatures dropping and the nights "drawing in" adjustments to fishing policies inevitably loom with the lure box being produced and the dry fly packed away. However, this past week has seen a continuance of dry fly success with CDCs and daddys along with hoppers still to the fore, although more catches are also being recorded to nymphs and WSWs, blobs and fritz being mentioned more frequently.
A few weeks fishing with small wets and spiders together with buzzers fished just under the surface could still be achieved and recorded catches this week show these methods still remain successful.
The best recorded catches this week fell to; D Wood, Aberdeen, 15 fish, (olive WSW), C McLean, Fraserburgh, 11 fish, (hopper), L Davidson. Macduff, 11 fish, (olive damsel), W Senior, Aberdeen, 10 fish, (WSW), S McLean, Fraserburgh, 10 fish, (various lures/CDC dry), C Reid, Banff, 9 fish, (various dry flies), A Murray, Gardenstown, 7 fish, (black/green fritz).
Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is a Troutmaster water and is open seven days from 8:00am til dusk with the present closing time of 7:00pm. The closing times will be adjusted according to light conditions and anglers will be informed at the fishery. Visitors and novices are welcome and booking is not necessary with boats (where required), rods and tackle available for hire at the fishery.
The weather for the coming week appears to be mixed although fishing conditions should remain favourable.
