Title: Buzzer Bonanza at Lochter.
Post by: Howard & Stuart on 13/05/2013 at 10:58
The lochs at Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum have been coming alive .Every time the wind drops the surface is pockmarked with swirls and splashes of rising trout all of them following the route to the surface of swarms of tiny black flies each protected in their diver -suit  style shuck and known collectively as buzzers . These comprise the main food of trout a fact of which many anglers are aware and by artificially replicating this food source can enjoy some of the best of sport.
Early in the week Dave Murray perhaps influenced by Man Utd comfortably winning the Premier league set up a team of red buzzers and netted nine nice fish as a result. A day later C Atkinson took the hint and his buzzer bag was sixteen all returned. It was on the windy side  for buzzer fishing as the week progressed but Ron Philips from Elgin found enough sheltered corners to tempt eleven and the same day Harry Kemp used a combination of buzzers and diawl bachs to catch and release fourteen.
Black buzzers were the choice of Les Mess and fifteen trout agreed .The Frigates number one Sandy Carrol tempted ten and other buzzer men who scored well included Albert Trail, K Wright, N Dow, D Simpson and M Pirie.
The British Legion competition on Saturday was won by Stonehaven Legion from Bucksburn and Inverurie. Finally the next heat of the Lochter £1000 Summer Series will be held on Sunday 2nd June entries to the fishery on 01651 872787 or 872000.
