Title: Lochter Summer Series Off to a Sunny Start
Post by: Howard & Stuart on 06/05/2013 at 14:39
The bank holiday weekend weather certainly was an improvement on what has gone before with much more pleasant temperatures and a fair bit of sunshine. Lochter Activity Centre and Fishery was buzzing with activity and it was great to see lots of young anglers being shown the ropes by dads and grandas and then successfully catching their tea on the all methods pools. These are the people who will keep the sport alive and must be encouraged. Sunny Sunday saw the first monthly heat of the £1000 Lochter Summer Series .The bright conditions made for testing fishing as the trout not having seen much of the sun disappeared into the shady depths .The tactics which worked best required anglers to get down deep and it was Peter Rawlinson who followed these tactics fishing mini lures on an intermediate line and came out top qualifier along with Dave Taylor, Ronnie Ewen  and Peter Wilson. These four will automatically go through to the final in October with a chance of scooping a slice of the prize cash .The next heat is scheduled for Sunday 2nd June and anglers who did not quite make it can have another go and will be joined by fishers who enjoy the warmer weather.
During the week there was some cracking fishing mainly using lures as the strong wind kept the fish down in the water. Top scorer was Scott Carle who had a great day using a green damsel to attract no fewer than twenty three fish. Also getting into double figures was Jamie McHardy  with ten on a black bunny leach, Peter Young thirteen on a black wsw, Jim Fraser eleven using blobs and wsw`s, John Parsons  eleven on his favourite black and green tadpole, A Shearer from Stonehaven seventeen on a white wsw,. Albert Trail sixteen using a white wsw and black buzzers and Les Mess thirteen thirteen all on black buzzers.
The water temperature is lifting , with it more fly life is apparent and at the time of writing there are trout rising all over the lochs so it should be buzzers dries and nymphs that do the business .
