Post by: Kevin Moss on 24/02/2013 at 10:40
The days were of two halves with freezing temperatures first thing and then summer like in the afternoons. It never effected fishing though apart from thursday where it went from a plus 14 degrees down to a minus 7 which switched fish right off.No matter though the fishing was overall very good with anglers enjoying great sport all round. There was plenty of decent fish caught and all in fine fettle.Best flies were lures as expected at this time of year Silver budgies,Skunks, red fritz and cats whiskers being the pick of them.George Stewart had a great day with a fish of 8lb 8ozs,Jim walker a 4lb 1oz,Jim Eddie a 7lb 5ozs,John Mellon a brace of fish, a Blue at 4lb 5oz and 5lbs,Frank Duthie had his 3 fish before returning fish of 6lbs,7lb and 8lbs,Kevin Flett had his first outing and was rewarded with a brown of near 4lbs which was returned,Bob Falconer enjoyed a bag of 10lbs 5ozs with his heaviest at 5lb 7ozs,Tim Betts had a fish of 6lbs,Chris Appleby had an 8lber among his 13 fish with son Louis a 4lb 5oz,Helen Wright had a4lber,Davy Mclennan had a great day with fish of 4lb10 ozsand 5lb 6ozs,Bill Christie returned a tiger trout,Doug Taylor had fish upto 7lbs,John Thompson had a fish of 5lb2ozs and Gary Gormley finished off a week with a 5lb 9ozs fish.Alison Main first time fly fishing with her daughter had her first fish on the fly at 3lbs 1ozs , Plenty of fish were caught overall with Gordon grant out on top with 26 fish with a nice double among these and most were averaging around 8 fish and others did manage 13 and 12,s.Overall a good start to the season which can only get better as the weather warms and fish feed more constant after the long winter. The coarse loch when open with less ice produced bream and ide to 2lbs 8ozs for angler Darren Hall. Most of the blues caught were around the 3 lb mark and certainly fought well.Anglers did report alot of fish lost adding to the excitement of a good weeks fishing.
