                                  Inverurie Win by a Fin.
The annual angling contest between Inverurie and Kintore was played out to the last minute at Lochter Fishery Omdmeldrum on Sunday. When the final whistle sounded and the fish were brought to the scales for weighing in it was too close to call. After careful scrutiny judge Bert Webster was able to announce that the score was twenty two to twenty one in Inverurie`s favour
Exceptionally heavy rain had led to a big run-off of muddy water from recently ploughed fields and this had caused the water to be very cloudy in all three lochs. This made fishing very testing and big bright coloured flies which the trout could see were the most effective.
This has been the situation all week but at the time of writing the water has now cleared and smaller nymphs will once more be effective.  Earlier in the week, when conditions were difficult, K Donovan used a green fritz to bring seven to the net and John Parsons a black and green tadpole to account for ten, two of which he kept. S Coutts had eight on a fritz tadpole ,Phil Wood seven using a nomad and a black fritz and Bill Reid seven on a cormorant and a bloodworm.
A special mention has to be made of Neil Smith who had his best day ever and achieved a personal best when he kept three and released thirty three using a selection of blobs, various fritz flies and a bunny leach. He kept changing the flies as the fish became wary of one pattern and this kept the fish coming steadily to the net.
There will be no winter league this year but instead the fishery will hold a number of competitions during the year the first of which will be the Guy Fawkes Singles on Sunday 4th November.Contact the fishery on 01651 872787 or 872000.E-mail info @lochter.co.uk.
