An altogether tougher week for the angler with water temperature decreasing, heavy rain leading to coloured water and fish that are determined to feed at different levels almost on an hourly basis. Constantly changing flies and tactics led to success for some anglers whilst others who persevered with their chosen method were rewarded for their patience albeit at sporadic intervals whilst lures, predominantly with black, green or yellow colours were most successful, the fishing depth seems to have become more important with some anglers enjoying success with a floating line and a slow retrieve, others used an intermediate or sinking line with a quicker retrieve.
The heavy rainfall during the last few days has brought in some fresh water and feed and Saturday saw some good activity from more aggressively feeding fish.
High numbers were not the order of the week although the following anglers bucked the trend:
A Murray, Gardenstown, 16 fish, (Black/green Fritz), D McLaren, Kirriemuir, 15 fish, (Diawl Bachs), A Hunter, Strathpeffer, 9 fish, (Black Nomad).
Some nice fish in the 5-6lb range were also landed.
The forecast for the coming week appears mixed but with the lower water temperature we can expect some good steady fishing with lures and Buzzers being the order of the day.
Delgatie Castle is a Troutmaster water where visitors and novices are welcome and booking is not necessary. Boats (where required), rods and tackle is available for hire. The fishery is open 7 days from 8:00am til 6:00pm and further information is available from Bob on 07980 999 006. :z15
