Where do you see yourself fishing (size of river) :?
How much have you allowed for rod/reel/line(s) :?
Plenty of good suggestions possible, but answers to above will help anyone wishing to comment.

Hi Hamish
I would be fishing the middle beats of the don and the dee. Im looking to spend about £350, not sure to go down the 2nd hand route for my first one they buy a new one at the start of next year.

OK, there are several threads on this topic of which these are but three:

Generally, something in the 14' range with a 9/10 rating would be a reasonable choice.
Reels - OK, let's not go there. So much choice it's bewildering.
Lines - my personal preference is for the Mackenzie shooting heads http://www.mackenzieflyfishing.com/shop/fly-fishing-lines but other lines are available.
Enjoy
