someone mentioned the echo micro practice rod to me recently; i googled it, and baulked at paying 60euros inc P&P...
So, for a minimal outlay of a piece of gaffa tape, a telescopic rod i found on the banks of the don following a spate (true!), a couple of lengths of cord salvaged from some promotional plastic bags, and, for a truly scottish touch, a tippet made from a piece of tartan ribbon that was on an xmas cake (!), here is my new rod build project - the Special Accuracy Development rod, or SAD rod for short...

surprisingly, it actually is useful!
I've been sitting on the sofa training my left arm/hand to cast; you can roll cast it, do snake rolls, double-handed casts, single handed casts, and you can actually sit and practice tightening and loosening your loops. I think I may have unloosened a few screws along the way too....
ah, it's a bit of fun - and warm and dry - I spent 90 mins out in the river last night, in a hailstone storm, getting cold and wet, practising with the switch rod...
thank you, and good night!

Nice one Iain! :z16

Cheers Iain,

Iain
Catch 22 - with better accuracy, you'd not have broken the vase...
I'll put additional warning labels on the prototype, "harmful if swallowed, may cause spousal irritation"

Just think Iain, a few less fly lines and you could have bought the real thing

Have those screws not been loose for some time? :z4

With all the rod builders on this forum, you have really put us to shame Iain.
I love the tartan ribbon...off a pair of knickers stuffed down the back of your sofa by any chance ;)

a gentleman doesn't fish and tell...

enough smut, off to the river. well, later, once it warms up a bit

but i *need* them! for experimentation. and tinkering. and basically just ignoring your good advice and mucking about...

when I was gillying I had a German client, and just with the reel in his hand he could cast 20yds, he said he learned to do it from a dutch guy, it was quite impressive, easgach1
