Awesome news Mike!  I will be travelling back to the U.K for 16 days beginning next Tuesday.  Salmon fishing on the Dee 15th - 17th but I will definately be up to see you at least once before I head off again.

Will you be keeping a stock of your new lines at the hut?  If so I will most likely want a play with a WF #4 whilst I am there.

Hi folks

There is still quite a lot of work to be done in the vicinity of the lake and the entrance to the fishery over the next couple of weeks, finishing roads etc ..... so apologies in advance if the loch is not the usual peaceful Haddo while this is carried out.

The water is a bit brown at the moment too I'm afraid, so I don't know how it will fish for the first few days. I've also been doing a lot of maintenance on the lake, which hasn't helped with the colour.

There were quite a few fish rising today though, so fingers crossed :wink

Best wishes
Mike

Hi Liam :z16

I didn't stop working to look to be honest ..... but there were olives on the go and there will always be midge. The water is full of darkish looking corixa at this time of year and damsels of course. I'm sure you'll suss something out :wink

Cheers

I hope the openning day goes well Mike. I am sure there will be plenty of smiles all round!

The nipper is wanting to try fly fishing so hopefully once she is casting a bit better I will be bringing her along. She can't wait!

Hi Liam,

Corixa are also known as Water Boatmen.  Typical fly below...

The lurk down near the bottom and make speedy darts up to the surface every so often.  Trout love them!

Five anglers on the loch and a good start to the season at Haddo today :z16

Everybody caught fish, which is great news ...... the five anglers had 76 trout between them, all Brownies

Ewan tempted 25, Alex 20, Liam 11 and Peter and Alistair both netted 10. Alistair had a nice 5 pounder, Ewan another of about 4 lb and Alex had one of 3.5 lb.

Corixa, Pearly Pennell, Diawl Bach, Red headed Damsel, March Brown Nymph, Pearly Spider, Olive Fritz, Pearl Ribbed Hare's Ear and an Orange Dancer all appeared to work well.

Best wishes
Mike

An excellent opening day for the 2012 Season, and a personal best for me.  The fish were well up for it and gave a good account of themselves after a long winter.  They were paticularly fond of corixa in the morning and later in the day were happily chasing lures with great enthusiasm.

It was a long wait for Haddo to open again but it was just great to get out there again and have superb day on the water.  My advice is to book early guys to "avoid disappointment"!  :z16  :z2

Morning Mike ,
Craig and myself had an excellent day on Friday , 7 brownies for me with craig bagging a rainbow in the 3 that he tempted later in the day ( much to his relief ) . The new floating line ( gt90 ) has been loaded onto the fladen spool all ready for the next trip out . Thanks again for the help and advise given for free and most welcome  :z16. Also , i would like to thank the guy on the bank , forgot his name on here but mike knows who it is , for the advice given on what lure and how to fish it as i landed 6 using his plan ...cheers  :z14.

looking forward to my next visit ,

Cheers ,

Mike G .
