Title: Rod building mod's
Post by: Iain Goolager on 24/11/2011 at 21:05
converting a Fladen 4 piece rod into a 2 1/4 piece and have a couple of questions;

a) Can I shorten a section by just simply hacksawing the monkey or should I wrap a section of tape around the blank and cut through this, or some other form of treatment?
b) Am I being miserable if I decide to use the existing reel seat assembly & what are the chances of getting it out alive?

Thanks

Iain

 I often take reel seats off by putting a hot rod up inside the seat , if you hold the hot rod in the vice,as soon as you can move the seat remove the rod from the hot rod, that way you dont burn the rod, I have salvaged quite a few seats from broken rods, and from decent rods, easgach1

Hi Easgach1  :z16

No fancy tools/ operation was required. Dry palms and a good set of 'guns' twisted it off fairly swiftly.  :X4

Well done, it always depends how it was put on,I have used the hot rod method to successfully recover whole cork handles, easgach1
