There was a definite feel of autumn in the air for some of the early morning anglers at Lochter Fishery Oldmeldrum .Temperatures started as low as six or seven degrees but gradually things warmed up and most days were a real pleasure to be out in. The trout too reacted to the fluctuating temperatures and anglers had to vary their tactics to keep the fish coming to the net.
Black mini lures, tadpoles and fritz were the business in the mornings but by lunchtime as things warmed buzzers came in to their own with the green cheeked variety working particularly well.
Paul Keir had two very successful visits catching and releasing twenty two on his first using black fritz and twenty on his second mixing black with olive fritz to keep the takes coming.
Lures worked well for many anglers ,Graham George used that NE favourite the WSW to account for nine all in the 3lb+ category ,S Urwin found that sixteen fish fell for the charms of his Hothead damsel and R Muir use Black fritz and Rob Roys to land eight including one lovely 6lb plus specimen.
Top of the buzzer men was Ian Syme from Glamis with fourteen while G Duncan used small nymphs and was delighted with his bag of eleven which included some quality fish.
Finally it was a pleasure to entertain the Cowdenbeath Anglers up for a couple of days for a wee break in the north .They had a fine time by day catching a fair few trout and in the evening enjoying the fleshpots of Inverurie.HASTE YE BACK LADS.
Colder weather is forecast for this week which if correct will put the fish down a bit deeper and will have anglers reaching for their thermals.
