Title: Battery charger

Boy this is getting expensive now  :roll Motor , Battery now I need a charger. If you google leisure battery charger you get some silly prices for chargers.
Will this one off flee bay do the job ?

Not sure if thats bang on the model but i can find out for sure!
Not sure  about the one you have suggested as i like to see a wee gauge that shows it 100% charged up !

you need a specific charger for leisure batteries, mine is a 6 amp job,easgach1

Apparently its just a gimic to get more money from punters who dont know any better  :z4
A 12amp battery is just that , leisure or not!

you wont get far with a 12a battery and a 44lb thrust motor, mine is 80a and its really too small but I get about 2hours running, the recommended battery should be round 120a, but carrying it would create a problem, most automotive chargers are trickle chargers and evidently not suitable for leisure batteries( at least that what the salesman said ??? )

easker never mind Baz he's fae Brechin you've got to make allowances  :grin :grin :grin :grin

Baz has a 12 volt battery not a 12 amp  :wink Batterries are measured in ampere hours -AH you are right you need at least a 100AH battery

As for power usage;

I guess the most important thing is to get two average guys in an average boat in an average chop and go full tilt. Use a clamp meter to tell you the current being drawn and if half speed is then measured you'll get a reasonable indication of usable battery life.

This said, I'm sure the battery I was looking at recommended a max of 70% discharge, also most things in life are theoretical and two batteries of the same spec will never be the same.
Also as the current draw increases there is some constant or other that reduces the Amp hrs of the battery and this constant increases as the battery gets older with increased cycles! bored? I am. just get fishing  :z15
