Title: Ythan Today 23/04/11
Post by: Dave Mundie on 23/04/2011 at 16:22
Went out to Ythan again today for couple of hours managed 4  :z15 although they were all around 4-5 inch, all caught on a spider.

So I'm well chuffed as this is my first wild fish on the river with the fly.

This is the first one I caught not sure if it's a brownie though as no red spots like the others had.

Your suspicions are correct Dave. That's a salmon parr.

Hi Dave,
Your photo is almost a prime example to use in Salmon Parr Identification.

http://www.fishingnet.com/parr_recognition.htm    the best easy identifier I've found.

Hopefully a few larger specimens will come to the net soon Dave.

Hope so Iain, will concentrate on the brownies for the now everyone says it's end of May/June before you get any sea trout or salmon on the ythan.
