That bridge is over the urie just upstream of where it joins the don. Think the footbridge is further up the inverurie beat of the don.
Title: Re: Where's this?
Post by: Mike Barrio on 09/02/2011 at 16:15
Aye, well done Noel :z16

The bridge is on the River Ury, just upstream from The Meetings and the wee footbridge is at The Miller, crossing the wee burn as you head up towards The Black Pot, on the Inverurie water of course.

Looks like the water is running from right to left, which means it must be a west coast river ;)

Does that not depend on which bank of the river you are standing on Rob? :z4

Loch Lee?
Title: Re: Where's this?
Post by: Hamish Young on 11/02/2011 at 07:30
It does not have a monster that I know of but isn't all that far away from a Loch which has reputably got more in it than the occasional Wellington bomber ......... :z17

To assist in the guesswork, as I appreciate there are one or two lochs in Scotland  :wink I can reveal that this Loch is not on the western side of the great glen. It's also not far from quite a good pike water and not that far from one of the few Rainbow fisheries in the area.
Twitchers have been known to congregate here and get all dewy eyed over a grebe.

Sorry Allan - it's not Loch Lee.

Hmmmmm  :roll That was a quote taken from an ex boss of mine at Shell when we were trying to work out where an old film had been filmed. Because the sea was on the left of the scene he was convinced it was the west coast. I hoped the wee wink would have given it away... :shock

Good guesses all, but they're not right guys  :z10

OK, a further clue.

There is a very tenuous link between a beat on the river and a Shakespearean play :z17

We could solve the "tinypic" hosting issue that some computers have with viewing photos, by hosting the photos directly on the forum if you would all prefer that? I could set up a section in the "GALLERY" specifically for this if you wish?

It would involve uploading your photo in to a new GALLERY section that I would set up and once uploaded, you could view your photo in the GALLERY and right click on the photo to copy the "image URL" and then paste this in your post :wink

Any thoughts folks?

Cheers

No problems from me Mike, it would be good for all to see the pics.  As long as it's not too much work.

My guess is the Thurso or Forss by the way.

Cheers Hamish, the Caithness backdrop was a wee bit of a clue and narrowed down to one of three waters (my next guess was going to be the Wick, although it looked too big for this water in anything but a heavy spate)

Have you ever noticed that the Thurso is a crackin troot stream?  Paying a bit heavy to fish it for troots mind.  Eddie McCarthy's lot net the troots out and relocate in 'a Cherigull (sp), Eun and Dinne Go (Local name, just check out the closest Gaelic equilivent  :z4)
Well at least they claim to do this  :roll

Was offered a shot on the Upper Thurso for troots some time back but sadly missed out as, by the time i'd got round all the other waters i was reporting on it was time to head home again  :cry

Anyway, as i'm at my work computer just now please feel free to play a joker lads, otherwise you'll all have to wait 'till i get home again later.

Loch coille bharr ??

Nope keep guessing,

It's more than 150ft deep in the middle, and nearly two miles long by up to 400yd wide, In the past, the loch was stocked with Loch Leven trout and they thrived.

It lies on the course of the River ****, which itself is born much further to the west amid the mountains of Gleann Fhiodhaig.

Following the clues i think i've got it (leven strain troots and River Meig final giveaway)

So (and Mike could actually claim it) i'm going for Beannacharain, but better known as Scardroy (named after the local lodge)
Had a season ticket for this area years back (Achonachie Angling Club) but never explored area near enough.  Need to put that right soon, and River Meig needs some serious attention.  Loch Meig, however, was a water i was never so keen on for some reason.

PS i'll post another offering later if no-one's beaten me to it (and assuming i've got the right water)

OK I'll go for something a bit different, Fly Fishing and its and its occasional paranormal manifestations.

Hugh Falkus wrote "Often I know beforehand I am going to catch a fish " that he attributed to Extra sensory perception.

Ian wood in 1957 called it the anglers extra sense.

Who am I quoting on the same subject ?

"It is as if there were some magnetic influence in the angler's confidence, which disposes the Salmon to take the fly"
