We certainly had some poor weather last week with rising and falling air pressure (yes, it plays a very important part in fishing) some sunny spells, strong, gusting winds, snow, sleet, rain and then ice! Thought I was back in Shetland!
No one fly line has dominated, but the larger fish have been taken nearer the bottom. The most successful flies have been a black WSW, Bloodworm, dark Buzzers and various PTN patterns.
Examples of recent catches include C Thompson who tempted 3 good fish at 5lbs, 6lbs and a beauty at 9lbs in his bag of 6 fish on his first visit using a black WSW. Visiting anglers K Hunt and M Bacon tempted 9 and 10 respectively, best at 5lbs using a variety of lures and R Stewart who used buzzers to good effect released 10, including a couple at circa 4 lbs. P James, also using buzzers, released 9, best at 5 lbs while P Long changing from buzzers to nymphs and back again, was top rod with 11, best at 5 lbs.
