No, but I can put you on to a good divorce lawyer.  :wink

For ceramics I use the Tiemco version which are good and at +/- £12 are less than some of the fancier varieties. I bought mine from Niche Products but I'm sure there are lots of suppliers - maybe even one close to you.

I'm assuming your an Angus Lad

I'm sure they are full ceramic (didn't know there were other variations).

One size to my knowledge - not a problem to me but then I work as a dressmaker.

The prices vary from site to site (quite considerably) but heres one in the range quoted

Hmmm, it is about as tricky as suggesting a new rod :roll We've bought two recently ( well, my sons have :z4 ) a high end Asus from PC World and a middle of the road Asus from Tescos. The one from Tescos is fine to be honest and only cost about £350 or £370?

Cheers

Hi

If you are looking for a bobbing holder that should never fail you, try a Matarelli. They are made out of stainless steel with brass buttons for the spool.

Very old design and now classed as a classic compared to the more modern stuff (TMC ceramic and Rite bobbins etc). The great thing about the Matarelli bobbins is that if you dop it on a hard floor, 1, They never break, 2, If they get a burr on the end of the tube, it is an easy job to reectify this with a small piece of leather and either very fine valve grinding paste or Brasso, you rotate the end of the tube on the rough side of the leather with the abrasive paste, a few minutes later, as good as new.

They are not as fancy as the TMC in looks but I have had a bunch of them for up to 20 years, great product.

I had a brief period when I bought the white TMC bobbins, but after a disaster with a white TMC bobbin that broke when I dropped it on the floor (I was really P***** off). I would not buy a bobbin holder with a full length tube again.  I suppose thay were never designed to bounce back onto the table unharmed but things do fall on the floor.

To date, my Matarelli bobbins have never let me down, great product but old school now I suppose.

Good luck with your new bobbin holder.

Kev.

What thread you using?

Is it hitting the hook point? The only time i have a problem with fraying, is when i catch the point of the hook during tying :z8

Never used that. Is it a unithread or a multi?

I tend to use bennechi 12/0 or unithread 8/0. Depends what i'm tying.

Have no idea where this is going to help :z6

Perhaps a gentle reaming with brasso is whats required, or just be a bit more gentle with the delicate tube

I have found the turned in rims have an edge where they are joined and this causes fraying, saying that they were very cheap.

I like my ceramic tube as it's nice and slim,I have another but it has ceramic inserts ,not too keen on it ,the end seems bulky.

I suppose they are like rods you just get used to them

Nah  I have seen enough rims,I used to work with armitage shanks that made the toilet bowls :shock,so iI have inspected many a rim, especially at carron hall in stone haven where they used to make modules for the rigs.

There is nothing worse than a semi blocked rim you just dont get the proper purge  :z4
