Post by: andy.b on 13/11/2006 at 01:30
I have just purchased a Hardy gem mkII 12FT salmon rod which is rated for a number 8 line. Can anybody tell me which make of fly line would suit this rod the best  or which style of line.

Andy,
Depends on:
1. Where you will use the rod most.
2. How far you need to cast.
3. How comfortable you are with different styles of casting.
4. How big your budget is (after buying a Hardy   ).

I've just bought an Airflo Delta Spey 'tips' line after a recommendation and it's actually quite a good line  with marginally less memory than a Mastermind contestant :z4  :z9
But a Double Taper might be more your cup of tea :?:
As an #8wt will it be primarily floating line work :?: If so, then I'd consider the Snowbee 2D spey line which I think is a cracking line but that said IMHO you'll not go far wrong with a full length DT line for all but big distance work.
