Title: Artloch & NE Challenge Reports

Artloch Report

We were treated to our first visit of the returning Osprey last week, so this must be a sign of Spring?

While the Osprey didn't catch his meal, nymphs and buzzers, followed by Fritz patterns have accounted for the majority of catches at Artloch this past week.   Fish are now feeding well, are generally high in the water and we have had some cracking rises first thing in the morning and in late evening.

Examples of recent catches include visitor K Linguard who returned a good fish circa 9 lbs in his bag, W Rainnie released 14, best 4lbs, while S Rennie tempted 15, best 5 1/2 lbs.   Visitor P Squire was content with his 16, best at 5lbs, but locals J Rennie and I Sutherland released 40 and 41 respectively over 2 visits, best at 8lbs and 7lbs.

Artloch is closed to casual anglers Sat 3 May.   See www.artlochfishery.co.uk for full report

NE Challenge Report

Second round of NE Challenge was fished in warm, sunny conditions with broken cloud and light wind.   Fish were rising as the match started and Bill Bain and Steven Corsar were both into fish with their first cast.   Others were soon following and by the mid-way point in the morning session, the majority had weighed in their 2 fish.

At lunchtime it was obvious that the match was still in the balance and teams still had all to play for.   In the afternoon session, fish continued to be caught right up to the end and it was going to be a tight match.

After all returns were handed in the final result was a win for Bill Bain Fishers with a total bag weight of 64lbs, with Colin's Dumplings a close 2nd with 60lbs.  In 3rd place were the Gordon Fly Fishers, followed by the MacDuff Marauders and finally Kintore Angling Club.   Jim Adie, Dave Taylor and Jimmy Rennie all tied for the best individual bag with each catching 12, but Jim Adie took the 1st place on weight, followed by Dave Taylor and Jimmy Rennie; the top 3 were separate by just 6 ozs.   Pete Adam weighed in the best fish at 6lbs 12 ozs, but reported losing a larger one with his next cast while other anglers also reported being broken.

So, after 2 rounds the leaders are Bill Bain Fishers, followed by Gordon Fly Fishers, Colin's Dumplings, Kintore Angling Club and then MacDuff Marauders.
