We should now be entering the winter fishing period where we would normally expect frosts and low temperatures especially at night instead of which we are experiencing temperatures in double figures even at night and long periods of heavy rain accompanied by strong and gale force winds.
With these factors come an uncertain and certainly unpredictable behaviour pattern from the fish where not only do their feeding habits change from day to day but can be seen to change from hour to hour as light conditions change and air pressure remains volatile.
Apart from the above effect the weather has on fish catches, it also reflects on the number of anglers attending the fishery.
However despite the foregoing we were able to report some good catches for the week with the best being; L Adams, Aberdeen, 21 fish, (blobs, lures), A Gibson, Gardenstown, 14 fish, (mini WSW), I Burnett, Fraserburgh, 8 fish, (white fritz), A Murray, Gardenstown, 7 fish, (cat's whisker), B Thomson, Aberdeen, 6 fish, (pink nomad), N Thomson, Turriff, 6 fish, (nomad, buzzers), S Rankin, Peterhead, 5 fish, (yellow fritz), M Stewart, Methlick, 5 fish, (green, black Montana).
The forecast for the coming week suggest little change overall but hopefully a lowering of temperatures towards the weekend.
Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is a Troutmaster water and is open seven days from 8am til 4pm as light permits. Visitors are always welcome with booking not necessary and boats (where required) rods and tackle are available for hire at the fishery.
The fishery will be open over the festive period apart from Christmas Day and New Year's Day. For up to date information phone Bob on 07980 999 006. :z15
