Hi folks
Haddo froze last night ( pity cause it was fishing well yesterday :z6 ) and the current temperature in the area is 0.5 degrees, with no wind ....... so the ice is actually getting worse today rather than clearing :cry
Unless there is a major change in the weather, it is unlikely that the fishery will be open this weekend :oops
Best wishes

I'll be on the Isla tomorrow with a flask of Horlicks, hard loafed cheese sandwiches and a few cheeky scotch eggs :z7
-
Let us know how you get on Iain, is it the strathmore water you fish ? I enjoyed the Earn despite the cold and lack of sucess (it beats a day in the office) but its a 250 mile round trip from Peterhead so its 4 hours driving 4 hours fishing , the Isla is not so far.

Will do Jim,
and the camera will be at hand just in case a ........I'm not going to jinx myself....fish appears!

Hi folks
Haddo is still very much frozen :z6 and temps throughout the week are going to continue to be low. Looks like there is a possibility of a bit of snow tomorrow and maybe quite a bit on Tuesday too.
Hmmm ..... could be a few days before I can open the fishery again :z3

Dunno Ben
Just come past there on my way home & between Oldmeldrum & Turriff varied from -6°c & -8.5°C. :shock :shock
Alex
-
Really Mike!! what sort of customer care is this? you could have swum around Haddo to ensure it was ice free!! I dont now what the fishing world is coming to lol :grin :grin :z7
-
So a boat on Saturday is out of the question then :z4 Looks like it will be Christmas shopping and putting the tree up for me :cry
:z18
Jim
-
Hi Jim .... fooled you! :z7
This is plan number 274 and it works ...... the cormorants can't get my fish now :z4 :z4 :z4
Cheers
Mike

Oh nooo ..... two Jims :shock
Yes, not looking good for Saturday, the ice is slowly getting thicker and it looks like we are in for a few rather cool nights too :z6

Hi Alex
I thought it was going to come down to something like that tonight ...... :z3

Mike
-
Hi folks
All the snow is disappearing nicely, but the temperature at Haddo is still pretty low and I didn't take the water temperature because it is still frozen :z4 ..... being so sheltered is not always an advantage.
The ice is somewhere between 1.5 and 2 inches thick this morning, so it will take a while to clear yet :z6
Best wishes
Mike Barrio
-
Hi folks
Air temps are up to about 4 degrees this morning ( according to my car ) and the ice melt, although slow, is coming along nicely. Haddo is still 100% frozen, but the ice is thinner today and is just over an inch thick. Looking good for about Tuesday ....... hopefully :wink
Drove past Lochter on the way over ...... there were 5 anglers fishing the "troot" loch, which appeared to be clear and the loch on the car park side of the road looked to be about 50% clear of ice.
Best wishes
Mike Barrio
-
Hi folks
Haddo was still totally frozen today I'm afraid :z6

Mike
Still pretty cold coming through Oldmeldrum this morning, at 6am it fluctuating between 0°C & 1°C so guess the loch will not be thawing out in a hurry. :cry :cry :cry
We need to get a shivering Smilie. :wink
Alex
-
Hi Mike
Very cold coming through Oldmeldrum this morning, at 6:15am it was fluctuating between -1.5°C & -2°C so guess the loch will now be getting thicker especially after all the rain, :cry :cry :cry a lot of black ice on the road this morning.
Alex
-
Yes ..... Haddo is still frozen I'm afraid Alex :z3
Best wishes

Edit = ..... Inverurie is sitting at -2 at 6.30 tonight already :shock

Hi Mike,
How's it looking for the weekend ?
Peeing down here in Ellon tonight .
Paul.
-
Hi Paul
Spent most of the day over at the loch today, bailing out boats etc etc.
Ice was still about an inch+ thick, but it was a bit milder today. I am going over again tomorrow and am hoping that I might be able to go out and smash it up ...... as long as it stays nice and mild tonight to help thin the ice a wee bit more :wink
Best wishes
Mike
-
Hi folks
Just back from Haddo, the ice is thinning out nicely in this rain and milder temps, so I will try to open tomorrow :wink
The loch often fishes well after a spell of ice ..... so fingers crossed :z16
Best wishes
Mike
-
Just home from a gig and its still p*****g it down temp has dropped to 3c so hope it dont hinder the big ice melt as i might get a chance to come along.
Dave
-
Hi folks
Was a bit wet in the morning, but turned out a nice day  Haddo is now more or less ice free and the fish were rising quite a lot for the time of year ...... almost all day in fact.
Just two anglers came along to try their luck today ..... Alex "catman" tempted 13 fish up to 8 lb and "dave23" netted 4 fish up to 5 lb.
No bookings tomorrow, but the fishery is open :wink
Best wishes
Mike Barrio
-
Hi folks
Water was great today, I have a couple of bookings for tomorrow and Thursday and it is looking a tad milder for the weekend ....... all of which is good news :wink

Haddo Trout Fishery (Friday 26th)
Quite a bit of ice on the water today, but nice and thin :z6
Saturday: (Fully booked) should be OK for Saturday, as long as we don't get a frost tonight I will be able to break up the ice reasonably quickly in the morning.
Sunday: ( one boat available ) Should be OK for Sunday, but will update on Saturday evening as conditions will obviously depend on what happens between now and then.
Best wishes
Mike
-
Hi folks
Yes, the ice was very thin at Haddo this morning and I cleared it in no time at all. By the time we packed up this afternoon the loch was totally clear.
Should fish well tomorrow as the fish were rising this afternoon once things warmed up a bit.
Best wishes
Mike
-
Hi folks
A pretty cool start to 2009 this morning, with my car registering minus 3 to minus 5 on the way to work. Another early morning type frost, as it was fairly mild last night and certainly not that nippy when I got up.
Haddo is frozen over this morning, it is not what I would call thick ice, but it is totally covered :z6
I have a good few bookings for this weekend and looking at the loch ...... I would guess that there might be a slight possibility of me being able to open tomorrow, but this will very much depend on today's temperatures and of course whether or not we get more frost tonight :roll I certainly would not recommend coming if you are travelling any distance :z17
Best wishes
Mike Barrio
-
Hi folks
Another cold night and the ice was much thicker this morning. Haddo is frozen and the fishery is closed today. Looking at conditions, I guess tomorrow will be the same story :z6
Best wishes
Mike Barrio
-
Mike if this freeze goes on you could open as an Ice rink ,its even fressing on the margins of the Chalk streams !
Happy new year to you all from a sub zero London !
-
Hi folks
Haddo is still frozen this morning, looking about 1.5 to 2 inches thick and not quite thick enough to be walking around on :wink
It was thawing nicely and had a few puddles on top as the morning pregressed, so if we don't get any more frost I would think there will be a chance of breaking it up the day after tomorrow ...... or it might even be sorting itself out by then. But no fishing tomorrow I'm afraid :z3
Best wishes
Mike
-
Hi all.
Just to let you all know that Delgatie is half frozen. You can still fish at the top end on the boat, jettie and a bit of the bank and also near the fish ladder.
It is slowly melting away.
Best Regards
Jonathan

Hows the Ice Mike?
Fishable tomorrow you reckon?
-
Hows the Ice Mike?
Fishable tomorrow you reckon?
Hi Baz :z16
The loch was thawing nicely yesterday, but last night's frost has put us right back where we started. The ice is quite thick again and will need a couple of mild days before I can think about trying to clear it.
Cheers
Mike
-
Hi all
Not much of a difference, same as yesterday.
Jonathan
-
Yes, Haddo is still very much frozen today I'm afraid :z6
So, no fishing tomorrow Saturday and I feel there is unlikely to be any change on Sunday, as the darkness is drawing in just now and it looks like clear skies again tonight.
Best wishes
Mike
-
Just took Daniel out to Football and the car was frozen, temp gauge reading minus 2 and the stars look real pretty :z10
Sandy
-
Hi all
We are still frozen over today. I cant see much of a change for tomorrow.
I think Sunday should be the better day as air temperatures are suppose to rise to 10 c and with SSW wind.
It should help shift this ice.
Jonathan
-
Hi all
We are ice free now
Jonathan
-
Hi folks
I'm not long back from Haddo and things are looking up, still a fair bit of ice about, but it is much thinner and there was some open water with a ripple on it :wink
The "ripple" passed the "plop" test with a small stone ..... all very technical :z4
It might clear tonight, but if not, it shouldn't take me long to get it fishing tomorrow morning. One angler is coming along already ...... so let's hope we can catch some fish :z3
Best wishes
Mike
-
I think myself and Mr Doyle will come and up and Poach your water tomorrow :z16
Are we best to call before we come up or do you think the ice will be away?
-
Hi Baz :z16
You're asking me to guess :oops ...... hmmm, it might not be gone, but I'll gently persuade it to move tomorrow morning if it hasn't :z4
Not sure how it will fish? Sometimes very well after a long ice spell, but there again it can sometimes take a couple of days to pick up :wink
If we get more frost tonight, I'll post something here in the morning to warn you. If not ...... yes, come up and we'll see if we can't winkle out a few :z3
Best wishes
Mike
-
Well its 12 degrees, blowing a gale and pissing down here at the moment, so i looks pretty good for tomorrow :z16
Sandy
-
Much the same as today then :z4 We spent the whole day getting blown aboot on Golden loch, never stopped raining all day!
just hope my stuff is dry for tomorrow :shock
-
Warm and windy in Inverurie tonight and no rain today :z7
Cheers
Mike
-
Good stuff, should be there for 9 :z16
-
Good stuff, should be there for 9 :z16
I open at 9.30 Baz ...... see you then :z4
-
A wee bit of ice about this morning, but the loch fished OK and there was room for 3 to 4 boats.
So, Haddo is open ...... until the next frosts folks :z12
Best wishes
Mike Barrio
-
Well I did say "until the next frosts folks" :z13
Haddo was frozen again this morning, not as thick as it was last week, but a good hard covering :z6
I guess this is going to come and go at the moment :z6
Feels a bit milder tonight and it's raining ..... Fingers crossed for tomorrow :z3
Best wishes

Hi Derek :z16
Today was very much a case of folk enjoying a good blether by the stove and cups of coffee :wink
But Alex went out for a wee while and tempted some nice fish on his new damsel patterns. If I remember correctly, I think he had a trout of about 8 lb-ish and some blues

I reckon its time for a new post :z7

As fishing is now on the menu lets get back to flies :z18

Hmmm, no ice whatsoever at Haddo at 4pm yesterday and it is totally frozen over again at 9.30 this morning ...... this is not turning out to be a good winter for fishing :roll
If we get a milder night tonight, I might be able to break it up and open tomorrow ..... if we get more frost tonight, I think I'll be closed for the weekend I'm afraid :z6
Best wishes

Hi
Same for Delgatie.
Weather at moment is wind and rain with a high of 2c. hopefully this will help melt the ice.
Jonathan
-
Hi
No improvement at all still frozen.
Its not getting a chance to thaw out at all.
Jonathan
-
Hi folks
Same at Haddo this morning, a good skin of ice covering the loch.
I did see a few anglers fishing one of the lochs at Lochter on the way home, so they have some fishable water today.
Best wishes
Mike
-
Hi
With the help of a few fishers. We started to break up the ice. A good inch in some places.
It has started to thaw out and move with the flow of water which is helping a bit.
If the frost stays away tonight i think we have a good chance to fish tomorrow.
Please call before travelling
Below are few pictures i took just before coming home today

Hi all
We had a very hard frost this morning -4 at 08:00 hrs this morning
We are frozen solid.
The pictures below. The disco fish. It jumped out of the water and landed on the ice.
For how long i dont know. Their was a bit of life in it.
Craig Stephen and myself went to the rescue waders on ets
Managed to get the fish. It had a glow in the dark bangle around its body and very tight on its stomach.
Unfortunately we never managed to revive the fish.
It could of only went through the head
Its sad to see this.

Hi Baz
Still frozen I'm afraid, about an inch thick around the boats and a bit thinner in the middle, with a couple of wee holes starting to appear above the springs.
If it stays as mild as this tonight, I might possibly be able to break it up tomorrow :z8

how was the wind at haddo today mike ????? It was absolutely howlin in the bridge of don :z4 :z4 :z4
clark
-
Swirling about a bit "clark", but fine for fishing and just what we have been needing to clear the water. The wind was possibly helping to provide some food too, as the fish seemed quite lively today.
Cheers
Mike

sorry didnt know :z8 think this is great site as i am fairly new to this fly fishing would love to try Haddo but cant swim and not too sure about boats :z4 :z4 :z4

Mike has floatation jackets so you will be safe enough. Get yourself over to Haddo and have a chat with Mike he will keep you right , I,m sure he could pair you up in a boat with a more experienced angler.

HI MIKE ,
was hoping to pay you a visit some time in the coming week subject to weather !!!! :cool:I presume that you will keep us all informed??
HUGH
-
Hi Hugh
Yes, I'll keep you up to date as the week goes :z3
The loch was clear and fishing today, so if the snow they are forecasting doesn't come tonight, I will be going over in the morning as usual.
Best wishes
Mike
-
Hi folks
Nice ripple on the water at Haddo today and air temps hovered around the 2 degrees mark, so I was thinking it should be fine for fishing tomorrow. But suddenly, at about 3pm, it went to 1.5, then 1, then 0.5, then 0 and when I came away at about 3.20pm ...... it was minus one :z6
Roads were fine on the way home for a while, bit wet, bit white, bit wet ........ and then all of a sudden everything froze and the last straight in to Inverurie was one long sheet of ice and resembled something like a destruction derby, there were cars everywhere and lots of bits of cars! :shock
So, I'm still hoping to be able to open again tomorrow, but I guess that will depend on what happens between now and then :wink
Best wishes

Its my first day off tomorrow, so i would guess it'll be solid :z6

Should be able to open at Haddo tomorrow (I think) let's see what the conditions are like in the morning :wink
Once again, please PM me on here, or send a text if you are thinking of fishing.

I haven't even gone over to have a look at Haddo today yet :oops Quite a hard frost here last night too and it has just started to snow again :z6
Don't fancy our chances for Monday Tam, it looks like this could go on for days yet and the temps might be falling further according to the forecast.
Interesting watching all the webcams, not much snow or ice on the coast, but fairly nippier as you come inland.
Best wishes
Mike

I've been over at Haddo this morning, tidying up boats etc etc and I found the ice to be a tad over 3 inches thick. The air temperature appears to be holding somewhere in the region of 3 to 6 degrees, so I would guess that with a little luck we might have some open water around Thursday :wink
Best wishes

Hi folks
Still totally iced over today at Haddo, but quite a bit thinner than yesterday and the snow has all gone. The air temperature was about 12 degrees, so this will hopefully continue :wink
I don't think the loch will be fishable tomorrow, but it might possibly be fishable on Thursday .... Fingers crossed :z3
Best wishes

Hi all
Just to let you all know that we are ice free now. We have had the snow melt down for the past two days.
Due to the vast amount of water coming through the lake, through the night the strainers choked up with weed ets ( thanks to the swans) and the water went over the fish ladder and down the road to the car park.
If you are planning to come fishing please be careful when driving down to the car park.
The road was used today with no problems just look where you are driving.
Until we can get the road repaired.
The water is very coloured at moment. Should be clear in a day or two
Today. A. Gibbson returned 8 fish up to 4lb and N. Thomson returned 6 fish up to 3lb for their 4 hr session
Best Regards
Jonathan

Hi folks
Haddo was still pretty much iced over this morning, but there was a nice clear pool about 200ft long in front of the hut and the fish were rising in it :wink
I have spent most of the day breaking the ice and I am hoping ( as long as we don't get frost tonight ) that the main fishing area should be clear for fishing tomorrow morning :z3
So all going well, Haddo should be open for fishing tomorrow
Best wishes

Hi Baz
Try the "local weather" link at the bottom of the forum, it is usually pretty accurate and you can change the location from Methlick to wherever you want :wink
Cheers

It was nice to get out again after a couple of months, Here's a picture of the 10lbs fish which was caught straight after a 9 1/2lbs one.
