Title: Adding Photos To Forum Posts
Post by: Mike Barrio on 16/03/2013 at 15:43
Hi folks

Adding photos to posts is something that people often find difficult  :z8

Let's make better use of the Photo Gallery and keep things simple!

You will notice that there is now a link above the text box when you are making a new post or reply "Add image to post and upload to gallery".
Please use this for adding photos to your posts, it is a great system and even resizes them for you!

When you click on it, a pop up appears:

1 - Give your photo a title or descriptive name. ( useful for finding the photo in a future gallery search )
2 - Click on "Choose file" to find your photo on your PC or phone, highlight the photo file and then click on the "Open" button.
3 - Now click on "Add picture", this will upload your photo to the gallery and insert a link in the text box to make the photo display in your post.

Treat the text link as a paragraph and simply press return to create a space between your photo and your text  *smiley-wink*

Previewing your post:  When you click the preview button, scroll up above the text editor box to see the preview. Then scroll down again to either continue writing/editing, or to hit the Post button.

Please don't post photos of dead fish ....... this has become a sort of unspoken rule by forum members over the years.
And please use best practice ....... minimum handling, keeping your fish in, or very briefly above, the water at all times  :z16

Cheers
Mike

Here is an example post using the gallery system :z16

Yes, that is certainly much easier! :z16

There is another way to do this, if anybody gets stuck  :z12

Go to the Main Photo Gallery first and use the 'Add Picture' link to upload your photo.
Once your photo is uploaded, copy the 'BB Code' under your photo and then simply paste the BB Code in your post  :z16

Cheers

That is a great photo of a trout in the water with a rod. That is the way brownies should be.
Well worth logging on just to see the photos.
Bob.

Thanks Bob ..... today's featured photo is one of Sandy's and he certainly uses his bamboo rods as fishing rods :z16

When I look at the photo of the trout I see a fish that is slim and just the way they used to look before others started to want big stockies. Have a couple of cane rods and a 9 ft. greenheart trout rod. They are heavier than modern rods but the greenheart action is easier on the eye and still catches fish.

Uploading photos from a mobile seems to work well now  :z16

Like the photos. One of the reasons I like this forum is the superb photos. Many I feel I am standing beside the cameral.
Looking at the gent bent down netting a fish. Just wish I could bend like that.

Really pleased that you like the photos Bob  :z12

These are purely down to forum members sharing their photos via the gallery and in their posts.

Fingers crossed that everybody enjoys a good season and that we all have photos to share  :z16

Cheers
Mike

I have done a few tweaks to improve images uploaded from mobiles.

Here's one I took the other day at Montrose  >)

Must confess that I prefer a camera for taking photos and a PC for viewing a website forum ..... but it can be done  *smiley-tongue-out*

Orientation Tip:

Some photos, especially photos taken with a mobile phone, can end up sideways when you upload them.

This is easy to fix afterwards:
(1) Find your photo in the gallery and click on 'Edit'
(2) On the Edit Picture page you will see 'Rotate Image By Degrees'
(3) Enter 270 in the rotate image by degrees box.
(4) Click on the 'Edit Picture' button at the bottom to confirm  :z16

It is important to note that although you have fixed the orientation - the photo will probably still look sideways to you  :X1
This is normal, as your PC/phone/device will still be using the photo that it stored initially in it's memory/cache.

To see the fixed/edited version of your photo, you will need to do a hard refresh - to do this simply press 'Ctrl' and 'F5' on your keyboard.

Refreshing on a mobile phone can be a bit trickier, and depends on the model, but usually involves something like - while viewing the website, click on the 3 dots at top right, select History,  then click on Clear browsing data, then ticking the box for 'Cached images and files'.

PS: When I see that somebody has uploaded a photo to the forum that is displaying sideways, I will normally edit it for you  *smiley-wink*

Cheers
Mike

If you'd like to share a YouTube video in your post, simply copy and paste the YouTube URL from your browser ( not the link in the YouTube share function ) and the video should display within your post.

The URL will usually have 'watch' in it somewhere.

These will normally show up as just a link in preview mode, but should display as a video once posted.

As always, if you run into any problems - just ask and I'll do my best to help  :z16

I have just finished some improvements to the 'Add image to post and upload to gallery' pop up form.

Works much better on mobiles now and I have simplified the process even further  :z16

I have also updated/edited the first post in this thread.
