I'm looking at buying a Sonik3 8' 3/4 wt rod for tackling 2 x wee burns/rivers. Anyone got any views on these?
............Or alternatives - note these retail @ £65 so don't offer me your 'troutbum' Ben :z4

Yes I did Ben but 'nil penneth' at the moment. - hope it's gone to a good home.
Sonik arrived yesterday. had a cast out the back and I like it!
All I need now is a burn and 2 hours.

Not seen a Sonik in the flesh Iain but they get a good review in this months T & S

I have used a sonik in the larger rods, the price says it all :z6

Jim due to finances I opted for the cheaper version and think it's a great wee rod - obviously the cork is not immaculate but I think it's more than acceptable.
I used a 4 wt WF line on it yesterday (out the back) and was really pleased with the results. I'll take itto Mikes' on Sunday and you can have a play.
Some businesses need to take a leaf out of Soniks book from a customer service angle - I rate their set up 10/10

I have 3 x Sonik SK4's arriving today or tomorow :)
There where on a buy two, get the third free.
I am under no illusion that these are far eastern rods built to a budget, but for £300 for 3 carp rods that have got rave reviews from every magazine and carp website, I cannot complain. I also went onto many of the carp forums and got the views of folk who are using these rods, and have been for over a year and I have not heard one complaint.
But they are not fly rods, so I will shut up..lol
ps. They have brought out a new range of spinning rods..so far the reports from the Pike and Predator guys have been exceptional...

How many blanks are not made in the UK now?? Can't really be a lot - even Hardy's go there!!
-
Depends where you are looking..as far as I am aware, the following companies still make there own blanks..
Harrison (Carp, Match, Specimen, Lure, Sea and Fly)
Free Spirit (Carp)
Century Composites (Carp, Sea)
North Western (Carp, Match, Fly)
Carbotec (Carp, Match, Fly)
David Norwich (Fly)
Bruce and Walker (Carp, Lure, Specimen and Fly)
I am sure there are a few more..I just cant remember off the top of my head.
I use Harrison a lot, also Century and when I can actually get the things, North Western. All excellent blanks, but relativly expensive when you look at finished rods comming to the UK. BUT, you are getting , in my opinion anyway :), much better blanks in that they are normally designed for UK fishing styles, for UK weather and for UK casting.
