Has anyone changed the net bag on one of these to a rubber mesh? Is the McLean large trout net bag the only option or is any other brands rubber mesh net a good fit?

hi derek
I have the fixed head McLean (not the hinged). I hated the original net - catches on everything you walk past
I bought a mesh style landing net head of roughly the same size, from eBay, and used that. In fact, I've bought two such mesh nets, different each time, and they've been grand. Can't recommend a specific brand; i'm sure if you find one of roughly the same size it'll work just fine

i had a 'traditional' bamboo scoop net with a rubber mesh but got shot of it as the fish were not 'enveloped' and just jumped out.
As a replacement i bought a Airflo Streamtec Pan Landing Net - its superb and will handle half decent sized fish as well

My net is the McLean large trout bag. Perfect size!

dont get me wrong, i have the McLeans ST gye net and its great.
However when i was looking for a 'scoop' net in a tackle shop in Kelso they showed me the McLeans fixed handle one. I looked at the price almost had to sit down.....£70 ??!?!? Maybe they are worth £30 but £70 is a joke.

I think Sharpes offer a soft mesh replacement pan net now for about a tenner?

They have a micro mesh but not rubberised the last I knew. Will check though, thanks Mike.
