yup, that's a good one !  :z16
 as a kid i was also taught the same figure of eight retrieve but with the four fingers (no thumb). that one's a little easier as it doesn't involve so much wrist rotation but holds less line.
either way, these are great for short distance fishing like typical upstream nymph or dry fishing. (just examples)
