Title: Hackles for Red Francis
Post by: Matt Henderson on 25/04/2012 at 11:05
All

Can anybody recommend a cape/packet of hackles to use for the hackle on a Red Francis.

Struggling to work out what exactly to use other than ginger coloured and preferably cock I think?

cheers

I use a Red Game Cock Hackle that I bought from Whiting Feathers. Has sizes that allow me to tie from a size 12 up to a size 4 depending on where on the cape I take the feather.

About £30 for the whole cape.

Keough tyers grade natural red game for me although anything will do really.  Got some Cookshill Indians that have a good fibre density and have used these too.  Doesn't really matter as long as it's not too sparse or webby IMO.

Cheers
