Guys,
did you get any good fishing goodies from Santa?
I got a Go pro camera which I have no idea how to use yet. I have sent a PM to Goolager for help but if anyone else is conversant with elec trickery any advice would be welcome. I am guessing that Iain Camweron and Euan Soundmixer might have something to say.
P.S,
Euan I picked up a rather fetching Russian hat for you in Azerbaijan to keep your lugs warm next spring. I will give it to you next time we meet.

I picked up a tenkara rod from the Czech Republic via ebay for less than £60 new, inc P&P
(http://www.fishingthefly.co.uk/forum/gallery/3_28_12_13_12_52_00.jpeg) (http://www.fishingthefly.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view&id=1629)
that's the tenkara rod at the bottom, with its case in the middle. On the top is the butt section from a 4 piece 9 footer just for scale.
Not entirely sure what I'll use it for - but have been doing some nymphing/bugging for grayling with my regular fly rods with leader to hand method and no fly line out of the rod - so I think that's probably where it will fit it. It'll also fit in the rear pocket of my fishing vest, so it can be carried along as a 2nd rod without getting in the way.
the rod is incredibly thin at the tip, so it'll fun to play with in close quarters stuff.
oh, and bought some more of the excellent barbless, black hooks from fishonproductions - I really like their range of hooks.

Some great DVDs and a few nice bits and pieces :z16

Guys,
looks like Santa is helping everyone to prepare for 2014. Lots of good stuff there.

When we bought our house the previous owners said there was a squirrel in the back garden. We've yet to see it. To give it some encouragement the wife bought me a squirrel feeder!

Very nice Matt. How are you going to fish with it?

The wife treated me to a new sonik sk8 xtr 7# 10ft and a sk3 reel with 2 barrio lines and a new barbour jacket

Well done good effort. Enjoy the new toys.

Use it's tail for Salmon flies obviously!
(no squirrels were harmed in the making of this post!)

Fair enough Matt,
as long as it is the grey version.

Orvis wader socks...so far, they have been worn around the house as slippers, they are that thick and warm :)
I have a Dyna King Barracuda rotary vice waiting for me in the US :)
And I treated myself to a Helios #7 Switch rod :)
I bought Cass a model engine to build...yes..thats what she wanted! :shock

Rob,
nice vice. Not from Santa but it is our 30th wedding anniversary in February and my wife has bought me an HMH exhibition vice with all sorts of attachments. It will not make any difference to the flies that I make but it does look like a nice piece of kit to play with.

Is that not what it is all about? ;)
I am thinking of putting a few £££s towards it and upgrading to an Indexer instead. She leaves on Sunday to the States for 2 weeks so I have to order it and get it delivered to her work in Houston. :z16

I just looked that up at Lakeland...I thought, wow, for £68 you get a lot of stuff...and then realised it had a "0" on the end.
I have owned cheaper cars!..lol. Very nice indeed!
-
Rob,
the vice and all the attachments have arrived in a very nice fishpond travelling fly tying case with compartments for materials. It looks ace, the engineering on this is way beyond any vice that I have used previously. It looks like I will joining my son as an expat later this year and heading off to the middle east for a few years so at least I should have a good stock of flies before I come back to retire and fish happily ever after.
Hope you enjoy your new vice when it arrives.

Euan,
I will go to the kitchen and take some with my phone.

Euan,
here it is with the additional jaw sets on the pedestal including the rotary chuck for tubes, sweet no more fannying about with needles.

Looks great Eddie :z16

Cheers Mike,
still freaking out about the prospect of no trout fishing for a few years but I am sure that I can find some stuff in the sea to throw fluff at to keep me going. Steven seems to be managing in the far east so I suppose his old man will get used to it. At least I will have a nice vice thanks to his mum to keep me going until we come home.
Eddie. :z18
-
Wow!
Now that is pretty. Well played Eddie getting your missus to buy something useful. :z4
I'm sure it will look lovely in the Middle East churning out Scottish trout flies in preparation for the big return.
:z1
-
Euan,
the big return is one thing but the last hurrah is another. I am not planning to move (no matter what my boss thinks) before some time in May. Lets get as much fishing and as much memories in as we can before I bugger off to the desert.
I already have the spring salmon fishing organised so we need to get the troot fishing for April and May sorted. I can see Durness and Beanie and the other lochs that we need to explore on the way to Beanie being done before I head off.
Eddie. :z16 :z18

I hear there are Salmon in the Yemen ;)
Plenty of saltwater oppurtunities for a bit of fly chucking, and there are a few fish in the rivers that will hit a fly, so all is not lost :)

Don't listen to him Dad the fishing will be horrendous, I wouldn't even bother if I were you. Your time would be far better spent tying flies for me! :z4
I'll fire through my requirements shortly and if my requests are ignored I will ensure that mother is made aware that her loving gift is not being put to good use....
:z18
Your loving son.
-
Steven,
I will be busy making flies for whatever I can find. You never communicate with your mother anyway so I will be fine. :X2
You could even try a novel concept and tie your own, I did teach you a long time ago so you will manage fine. :X2
Dad :z18

Mrs Henderson spotted out squirrel in the garden yesterday. Bit of a conundrum a grey body but quite a gingery head?!? Do they cross breed?
Sadly the 35mm lense was on the camera to take pictures of the bairn and she couldn't get a decent picture of the wee thing.
Cheers
Matt

Hi Matt
Mixed colouring is common in greys. The cant breed with reds.
