This is a general upwing representation, material colour and hook size selection can cover a range of fly species.

3) Tie in a fibre of Turkey biot and bind down as you bring the tying thread down the hook shank. Stop one turn short of the tail to give a more tapered transition from body to tail.

4) Wind the biot up the hook shank to a point just past the point where the wing will sit and secure with thread, remove biot tag.

5) Take a suitable amount of wing material and tie in, remove tag ends. A few turns behind the wing will help to keep the wing at a better angle.

6) Tie in your hackle, remove tag.

7) Dub on some Squirrel and create a thorax – two turns behind the wing to start with makes for a nicer fly.

8) Wind the hackle in 2 – 2 1/2 open turns and tie off.
