Post by: Steven Kidd on 14/04/2008 at 13:17
I have planned a few day's on Loch Naver for the May weekend......anybody been there?

What flies would you use....?

big bushy wets I suspect but what patterns....?

Anyone else got any trips to big lochs planned this season?

Hi,

Have visited Loch Naver but always been about July when i've been.

It can be hard going but some good fish there to be had, loch ordie, wickhams fancy, zulu, clan chief all the usual suspects do well.  Something with a bit of weight on the point is sometimes necessary.

The Trout also respond well to a large clipped deer hair sedge on the top dropper.  Always a chance of a salmon at the mouth of the Mudale or around the Naver but i have never contacted nor seen any, also charr in deeper area's.  Good drifts along from the white house on the eastern shore right down to the small burn  where the estate boats are moored and along the southern shore.

Cracking scenery and Loch Meadie along the road is full of small aggressive trout that love the aforementioned sedge pattern.

Tight lines
