Title: #9 floater

Chaps,

Since Mike doesn't do a #9 floating line, can anyone recommend a floater in that size?
Let's just say that I might like to use it for salmon (with a sink tip), pike and just general fooling around with my casting. It doesn't have to be an out and out distance line, although that might be nice, but must be nice to roll and overhead.
Oh and being a cheap b#st#rd, not too expensive.

Hi Euan,

Try an SLX #8, if you bring the rod out to the shop one day I will bring one in and you can try it.  Other than that in #9, lines are beginning to get a bit specialist.

Tempted to suggest that a day spent making up shooting heads might be the way to go...... :z17

Might just do that you know. You think an #8 SLX will work on an Access 9' #9?

I use the following #9 floating lines.

Cortland Precision Pike Line - Steep taper, heavy head for turning big pike flies (including tubes) (1/0 - 8/0)
Airflo Cold Saltwater Striper Line - Longer head, less taper, great all round line (2-3/0)
Barrio GT120 - better for smaller flies (4-1)
Rio Shooting head - very short and heavy, punches thriugh the wind.
Partridge Payload - a very strange line but seems to carry wind resistant flies well.

hi,
if the SLX-8 doesn't do it for you (although it should !  :cool: ) or you want a longer bellied line you'd probably be happy with either a SA or Rio Steelhead line in 9.
other very nice option is a Rio Indicator for heavier/bigger flies.

Haven't tried the SLX #8 yet, but I am looking a shooting heads now.
Sometime before the start of next season some sort of floater will be on my #9!
Steelhead lines might be a good option.  :z16

Hi Euan,

Steelhead taper will be too long for what you are wanting mate.  On a #9 single hander one of the new Barrio switch lines in a #6 could work well, not got the grams weights to hand but when the next batch of samples turn up I'll give you a shout.
