Title: Donegal Bumble
Post by: Robert MacDonald-Lewis on 14/07/2021 at 21:03
Found this pattern in Irish Trout & Salmon Flies, thought it might be worth a try on a trip I have planned to the Uists.

Very nicely tied Robert  :z16

I've had mixed success with blue bodied flies, a confidence thing I guess, but that one certainly looks fishy  *smiley-smile*

Hope you enjoy your trip!
Cheers
Mike

Thanks for the kind word gents?

Can't say I have use blue bodied flies that often, do have a couple of Donegal Blue's in a box somewhere. Have had reasonable success with a Blue Zulu in the past, especially when tied as a muddler.

Hopefully this one will be good for a fish or two.

lovely neat tying  :z16

Would I fish a blue bodied fly for trout ? That is the question........you know I don't think I would

Although it looks fantastic I just cant see me tying on anything predominantly blue.

Funny isn't it, yet flies like the Invicta and Claret Bumble just don't look right without a blue hackle   :z8

It's all a confidence thing ..... maybe we should all go out and try a blue bodied fly  :z16
