Lochter Report Autumn Sunshine New
« on: 26/10/2022 at 11:21 »
Down Lochter way it has been said that Autumn sunshine is a prized commodity to be enjoyed to the full and at this time of year the ‘ripeness of Autumn fills the air’ and it should be a time of mellowness and reflection. Certainly a large band of our loyal customers looked reasonably mellow and the reflection was concentrated mainly on picking the right fly for the conditions of the day.

With the ‘Indian Summer’ like conditions of late our, hungry trout continue to ‘feed up’ for the anticipated damp, dreary, desolate days of Winter that lurk ahead when pickings will be somewhat slimmer.

Meeting this ‘need for feed’ wasn’t as easy as it sounds but there was a cohort of lucky anglers who were in the 20 plus category during the week. Steven Craig used a selection of lures at various depths for his tally, Graham Thomson on a floating line changed between a team of cormorants to buzzers and okay dokay’s during his all day session, Albert Cowie kept faith with his black lures and when they wained he changed onto buzzers, Paul Keir used mainly the mojito or hothead damsel and Colin Symonds used either green cormorants or the Dennis the Menace buzzer.

Stuart Howie fished mainly the apps bloodworm for his 19 fish and also on this number were Mike McDonald on a cat bug, Neil Shepherd on the mojito or mop and Kevin Weir on the apps bloodworm and buzzers.

Graham Duthie used fabs, mini lures and buzzers for his 18 fish, Mike Skene used the bunny leech and other lures for his 17 fish, J Leslie used mops for his 16 fish, Jim Gilmour changed between dry’s and buzzers for his 14 fish  and C Gordon used the shimmer worm for his 14 fish. There were also lots of returns in the 6 – 10 fish category with the most effective flies being the fab, hothead damsel, beaded diawl bach, yellow dancer and the humble buzzer.

So, all in all it’s a fine time of year to be coming down Lochter way with it’s lovely Autumnal backdrop, full of light and colour to delight the eye.

Tight Lines wherever you fish or find solace.
