Title: Long shank hooks - streamers / nymphs
Post by: James Laraway on 15/02/2017 at 12:11
I started looking round for hooks for tying trout streamers on and got to thinking how sea hooks are much cheaper. I saw some on veals website so took a chance on these.
they are not thick wire, more like 'small' 'aberdeen type hooks - but come in a nice range of sizes and what a price - £1.66 per packet of 15 hooks  - and they only charge £1.75 shipping so I bought a few :-)

Trouble with the sea hooks is that they tend not to be as well "finished" regarding corrosion resistance. Sea anglers tend to use them once and then bin them.

I used to use Kamasan "Aberdeens" in size 6 for streamers but ended up with a box of flies with rusted shanks under the body material.  :z10

From bitter experience, I would suggest using "proper" hooks as they last much much longer.
