Hamish, Dave & I will be along to Haddo on the 15th with a selection of new Orvis rods and other bits & pieces for you to have a look at and a play with. We will bring a selection of new Western3 rods, some of the new Helios range and hopefully some waders & jackets too. Free casting tuition sessions will be available to anyone buying a ticket to fish on the day.
See you there
Ben

Looking forward to this, I'll be the one drinking coffee and smoking fags with Mike :z7
Hamish :z3

Put my name down I should be able to make it :z16
:z18
Jim
-
Excellent, couple of rods coming which I think you'll like Jim :z16
-
Hopefully I can make it along, will check my on call rota.
-
is this open to anyone , like myself who would not mind some tuition
-
Hi Ed,
Open to anyone and tution is available for anyone who is fishing on the day, be 20 or 30 minute slots depending upon numbers.
Cheers
Ben
-
going by the website there is no bank fishing so would the tuition be by boat or floating tube
-
There are places at Haddo you can cast from the bank, tution would be from there but you are correct that it is boats or tubes only as far as fishing goes. Not tried it but, I imagine casting tution in float tubes could be interesting :z4
Ben
-
looking forward to it already !!

Ah ha :! The trend has been set :z16
-
Hi All
why do you all do good things when i'm offshore :cry
-
OK, swung past the Orvis shop on my way home from Aberdeen late this afternoon..... and the new Western 3 rods are just in :z16
First impressions are top top quality bits of kit, nicely finished and the tip-flex models I looked at feel just right.
Unless Ben & Dave shift 'em all before the day at Haddo, I reckon folk will like them as much as I do.
Look out for the 10ft #7wt, I think it's going to be a peach of a rod, the 9.5ft #6wt feels damn good too.
I'm looking forward to this day more and more :wink
Hamish :z3

Sorry Ben ,
Won't be able to make this.
I'll be down on the Tweed that weekend .
If there is another I'll try and be there .
Paul.

Hi folks
The "Orvis Toy Day" is not far away now, so I guess some of you might have a better idea about whether you fancy coming along.
Apart from bringing lots of new Orvis toys for you to play with, Ben kindly offered to help folk with some casting tuition if they were fishing on the day. I have therefore kept 4 boats available, so we have space for 8 folk fishing at a time and I thought we could do something like ( fishing approx 9.30 to 1.30 at £10 ) and ( fishing approx 1.30 to 5.30 at £10 ) to give everybody a chance.
While we are playing with toys, don't forget that my demo fly lines will be there too, so if anybody wants to try any of these on their rods or an Orvis rod, please ask ....... and I'll take £2 off the lines on the day for those who like a bargain :wink
Please let me know if you would like to reserve one of the fishing sessions ......... and which session?
( 9.30 to 1.30 )
"Jedi" Jim
"nailchapper" Scott
"Birnie" Alan
Paul Black
"clark" Calum
"luckyshot66" Cameron
"dave23" Dave
..... "Ed"?
( 1.30 to 5.30 )
"skidd" Steven
Craig Harris
"Goolager" Iain
..... "Ed"?
Best wishes
Mike
PS: I would think that folk would check out the Orvis demos and do any instruction before or after their fishing session, so you might turn up at 9.30 and not fish until 1.30 etc :wink
-
Mike
I'll take an early session if thats OK
:z18
Jim
-
Hi Mike,
Count me in, I'd like to attend.
Cheers,
Steven

Placing the "toy" order on Monday, if there are any particular rods anyone would like to try then post them here over the weekend and I will try to make sure they are there on the day.
Cheers

Played **cough** I actually mean tried out in a professional non-playing sort ot way :wink 2 of the new Western 3 rods today
Deeply impressive, IMHO the 10ft #7wt is a snip at the price.
A belting rod, one the sweetest 10ft #7wts I've picked up in a long time :z16
I suspect they'll go down well on the 15th :z18
Hamish :z3

Hi Mike,
Afternoon session is better for - just incase work throws up some morning junk.

Does it feel like a helios :? :?,please tell me it does :wink :z4,any rod you would compare it to :?
-
Does it feel like a helios :?
No, although I really like the build (perhaps more so than the equivilant Helios :shock) this W3 is a very different tool - bloody good one too
please tell me it does :wink :z4
Sorry, I can't tell you it does :z10
Heavier (obviously) than the Helios and perhaps a bit slower in the hand. I really like it :z3
any rod you would compare it to :?
Not really, although I certainly think the rods I tried were more than a match for considerably more expensive toys in the same class from other makes I've tried of late. On the grass, with a conventional WF#7 on the 10ft #7wt, the backing knot was rattling out most of the time yesterday, effortless
Roll on Haddo day, I'll get a 'hurl' on the water :grin
Honestly, you'd need to try one yourself :z16
I'm confident the Western 3 rods are in a whole different class to the W2 rods (and they were good), a good stepping stone before you get to the Helios.

The western 3 rods are nice the 10FT#7 would be a braw boat rod and the rest are really well finished with a nice matt blank, if mrs monksmyre would let go of the purse i could maybe get one of them bad boys :z4
Another highlight of the day was the chilli soup made by hamish :z16,come to think about it maybe thats how my erse was numb :shock :shock

Is that Ben into a fish on a Salmon rod???
It is :z4
Ben
-
put up much of a fight? lol
-
It did actually, it was one angry trout!! Really nice fish, only about 3lb but really went well and in excellent condition, still cannot believe it took that lure that was on the end of about 4ft of 25lb fluorocarbon! The rod was quite light, 13ft 7wt and not that stiff made really easy work of covering water :z4
Cheers
Ben
-
Dave23 were you fishing in the boat with Jedi?
Monksmyre were you the guy that was up to drop his daughter off at the airport (or something like that)?
Perhaps name badges might be the order of the day in future. :wink
