It will soon be August .... when things usually get a bit tougher

Do you change your tactics in August, or fish for another species perhaps? ...... or simply enjoy your evenings on the water anyway

Off to spend next week chasing Mackeral, Pollock and Bass on fly and lure with my daughter.

Looking at the Dee this morning, I will be giving the rivers a miss for a while.

Also will fish for Carp from now until the end of October as they are starting to move up a gear and feed up for winter :)

why would you change anything, Mike ? is it because of low and warmer waters ?

Pretty much Marc, although I must confess that I actually like those conditions.

So .... August = fishing doldrums on a local level .... myth or true?

Actually I've come to regard August as the best month for wild fishing on our lochs at any rate.  Rivers perhaps rely a bit more on fresh water.

As for tactic changes?  Dries all the way for me.

I think it's down to that local thing Mr B, personally I don't think August is a fickle month up here (except on the rivers if there's no water) but I have seen it tough elsewhere, particularly the likes of the reservoirs down South.
I think I'd err on the side of saying it's a myth nationally but some truth that August doldrums exist at a local level (just like they do in every other month of the season  :z7).
Now how's that for sitting on the fence  :z4

H
