Never actually fished it but have passed it many of times on my way to loch Esk :wink and loch Brandy :wink
-
There was a problem last season as all of the fishing records along with permit money went missing.
I read somewhere something about losing The Heath Ledger
-
Have you fished it lately :?
-
Not lately but had a cast on both loch esk and loch Brandy this year, The od wee broon was caught :wink
Loch esk is not a walk for the unfit though :z4
-
Naw, it's pish!
I've fished it twice three or four years ago but when I'm down that way there's much better places to fish - nice setting though.
I used a blob and it was the difference between catching fish and blanking :z4 :z7
-
Wouldnt go quite as fas as Iain there by lowering the tone and using a blob on a hill loch :z4 :z4
Oh maybe if it was a bibio blob :wink

Hoping to fish Brandy for the Pike this year..its always on my to do list but never happens!..hmmm
Some lovely places up that way....used to fish some of the small burns around there, just for 9 brownies, but sooooo much fun on a 7 foot cane rod.
-
Only joshing Baz,
What's the story on Loch Esk - never fished it, is it one for the tuber?
-
I can see a Brandy outing coming on this year, but as said in my tubing post, it's not for the smoker, elderly, idle or girlie (or Piker) :z4

This is a must for the tube i guess!
Head past clova hotel up to glen doll. Walk 3/4 of the way up jocks road and veer off to the right.
Loch esk is pretty small but will take some photos next time i pop up.
Will actually take the dogs up next time iam off for so will get some snaps then :wink

Actually Rob,
I think it'd be interesting to see what exactly is in there but there's no way I'd be taking both Trout AND Pike stuff up that gradient.
-

I reckon a Fast sinker and a big lure could be fun at Brandy :z4

Not fished it but walked upto it a few times when in the army as part of out training. For some reason they thought a rifle was more use than a rod????
-
Sandy,
THANK YOU! I was hoping someone would comment approvingly or otherwise
-
Its lovely , someone has actually made a wee cave like shelter under a huge rock and its almost like a wee house- i reckon i could sleep up there without my tent :z4

Baz, are you trying to escape my Christmas card list?
but you may have a point as it's a deep Loch and I'll wager there are leviathans.
Loch Esk looks amazing. I'm stir crazy at the moment and would murder for a half hour in the tube on such a Loch

Well,
I do recognise the water - but I can't, and never will, remember it off my own back. The father-in-law drove me down that way a few years back when I was asking about where to fish

Is it close to edzell base?

Wouldn't have anything in common with your forum "handle", would it Derek?

So where was the last photograph of then Derek? ???
It was a wee pond between blair and alyth and it was overfished by our overseas visitors, It was never run as a fishery as far as i know, we did fish it and managed a rainbow each.
really nice veiw though :z4
-
fANCY A TRIP rOB?
Nope!
I fished Clunie every weekend for 11 years..would never go back now. The place has been raped by the local "fruit pickers" if you get my meaning. Was there last winter for a go on the fly and as i waded in i got tangled in a set line. The banks where litter strewn and the "No Fishing, No Camping" signs had been torn down. The chap that owns the big house on the hill has had trouble with poachers on his bank etc etc.
Not the beautiful place I remembered. Biggest fish I know of was around 26 pounds..which is not big compared to what the place should have been able to produce.
Stormont is an SSSI..no fishing..although many years ago the Tayside branch of the PAC got acces for a couple of trips. All we found was 2 feet or water and 5 feet of silt. :(
Drumellie is in fact known as Marlee locally. Again, set lines..but not so bad due to poor access. Have had some nice fish from there over the years, with a fish of 36 pounds being taken 2 years ago....but it was found dead a month or so later :( Lures work well on it..but it could only be float tubed if on the fly. Out of the three lochs, this is the one i would concentrate on...
-
Rob have you fished loch Wharrel, its suppose to hold Pike?
