Title: Smaller rods..any advice?
Post by: Jonathan Kerr on 25/02/2024 at 13:33
Hey folks, forgot all about this forum! Used to be on it all the time when I lived in Aberdeen. Now back up in Shetland…

I’ve been out of the game for a little bit…I’m keen for a new 4 wt rod that won’t break the bank..anyone got any tips? Orvis Clearwater might be ok? Are there many others out there worth considering?! I’ve been a die hard 6wt fan for most of my life but fancy something smaller for general purpose use…

Personally i'd go for #4 glass. I did and have loved it ever since....
I bought a Taniwha #4 glass which i think is 7ft4

I used to fish a #6 carbon as my 'go-to' however i cant see past glass now....

Thanks James.  Interesting hearing about all this glass. Never seen one in the flesh, not many use them up here. Will need to read more about them!

The faster Taniwha carbon blanks 10ft in 4 or 3wt make for very good loch rods.
