Playing about with my fly tying stuff today.

Not really my forte, but I do enjoy it once I get going, and the fish don't seem to mind.

Simple CDC Spider #14

And scruffy? ..... How scruffy would you like it  *smiley-grin*

They look good. Do you wind cdc feather like a soft hackle/spider or use a loop/split thread please?

Hi Kav

I have fished with Sandy for years, and his CDC Spiders are always very productive, so I naturally try to follow the way he makes them.

Sandy has posted his CDC Spider patterns on the forum a number of times, but I would check out the most recent one in the Step by Steps section to get a good idea of how they are tied https://www.fishingthefly.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=9525.msg75263#msg75263   He also incorporates traditional spider feathers with the CDC in that one.

I think he uses both dubbing loops and split threads. My one in this post was done with a dubbing loop  :z16

Cheers
Mike

Brilliant thankyou Mike (and Sandy) I'll give them a go. I only have 1 magic tool clip but I'll try and figure something out - or buy a new set

Thanks for the inspiration.  Thought i’d start on a few small black things for august trip to wales. on a side note all 3 hooks are claiming to be 16’s! when i was a kid course fishing i remember 16 and 18 being tiny and just using a single maggot

Thanks Mike, I think your tying and photography skills are considerably better than mine!

jig hook sizing makes me laugh - they are always about 3 sizes bigger than advertised.

I find partridge particularly bad for doing this...
