So, ive never tied them before but thought it was about time.
I've had some CDC feathers kicking about for ages so though i would give them a go, and dispite being on small ( for me) size 16s i like the the look of them ( Ian Cameron - i copied the ones you gave me but blinged them up a tad :X2 )
anyway, you obviously use the tips of the CDC feather for tying the patter, but i think the feathers i had where med or large in size - so now i have a lot of 'waste'
any idea what to tie with the remainder ?

hi james,
nice flees! Yes, there's a lot of waste if you just use the tips of big feathers.
I have used the longer barbs (nearer to the base of the feather) as tails - they are very floppy/mobile, and fragile though. I use them on spinner patterns where being deid is a good thing.
Generally, I tend to just bin the discarded bits, i'm afraid.
You could probably make some dubbing out of the CDC, or use them to wrap a CDC'n'elk type body. should work well enough.

As mentioned, dubbing, or you can use them to make scraggy bugs for grayling (and trout) by placing them in a dubbing loop.
