Would dark brown Partridge feather be a suitable sub for the grouse? :z8 Iain just whenever suits you :z16

Liam,
at the risk of getting abuse from any fastidious faction.........................of course, why not, that's why I landed with the Grouse.
If it's brown and 'speckledy' go for it, lots of people jam with various bird feathers.

Nice fly Iain.
Liam, I use brown partridge for mine. Never considered using grouse but it looks O.K.

Sweet I'll go knock a few up :z16. A sub for the dubbing? SFL and squirrel mix or Hares mask, feck knows ???
Cheers
-
Really nice fly Iain, you've been practicing :z14 .... or is it the loon thats been tying?? :z4 :z4
Must admit that the MB's are one of the few river flies I tie with a heavy hackle, they're a big fly!
-
Aye, nae bad.
Mind you if you skipped the tail, used hare's ear for the dubbing and golden plover for the hackle you would have a proper spider that really catches during LDO hatches. A bit like the one on the left here :z12

Nice fly Iain worth having a few in the armoury.
Try it over a yellow thread base sparse dub so the yellow shows through a wee bit or sub the gold rib for yellow floss.
