What was your best trout fishing outing in 2010 and why?

Mine was a day up at Loch Beannie and an evening on Monymusk on the Don. In both cases for the good company! :wink

Best wishes

Mine was also an evening at monymusk :wink

but also a day at haddo, watching the loon take the boat on his own
select and tie on his own flee and then promptly hook , land and return a double figure 'bow.
Quite a watershed moment :grin

Mine was a spring day up at Alford.

For over an hour i cast to a big fish rising constatntly just off the bank.  Changed flies after every couple drifts reduced leader size, tried everything.  Finally got him to rise and i missed him  :mad Luckaly after 5 mins he was rising again  eventually got him on a small black klink.  Biggest river trout i got all year just over 3lb and made my season  :z16

Roll on April  :z4

Saturday, May 22nd we fished  Loch na Gruagaich, a small loch next to Loch Awe (Assynt Angling Group). It was a sunny, but windy afternoon. As soon as the winds died down however, fish were rising all over the loch. We caught them on black Klinkhamers size 16. Winds picked up, fish disappeared. This continued all afternoon, we must have caught 50 or 60 small brownies and a dozen 'crackers.' My best day in 2010, but pikeseason is underway so who knows  :z4

My best day this season was a day on Loch Benacally its in the Pertshire hills. There is only one boat and that was taken so we fish thr bank , its about 4 miles in circumference so it took us the whole day.
It was great to be out on a Loch I'd nevr fished before with a couple of mates, bueutiful setting great weather, its what fishing is all about. I blanked by the way  :wink

Have been thinking about this and I cant pick one.

A few that stand out in my memory would be
Late nights on the don with Mr goolager.
The few 3 am mornings on the Don after nightshift.
Tubing Loch Park.
Loch Leven with John R.
A few exceptional days at Haddo.
A few days afloat on my home Lough in Ireland with my earliest fishing buddy.

Hi Stuart,

We too caught a lot of very small trout, some as small as 3 inches. However, I had 6 trout between 1/2 pound and a pound. I caught all the better fish on a size 10 peacock Pennell. For me the hotspot was that burn you mentioned at the left back end. There a trout of at least 2 but closer to 3 pounds jumped maybe 3 feet in front of me. Never expected that size of trout in such a small loch.

Both of mine were at Haddo. First was a day out with my dad and getting the first fish on my 3wt.  The second was a day out with my cousin where I fishing dries for the first time and Mike's little blues were very obliging.

my best day would of been in july when myself and kev muir took the tubes into the assynt crofters hill lochs for the day and found a very good loch with free rishing fish most of which were about 11 inch great fun

Jeroen,  that would be a good loch early season could get a cracker.if you could get mosh fish about half a pound it would be great but theres so many lochs up there that are 4 or 5 to the pound lochs

over the past 8 years we have been fishing that area and found a few loch of which dreams are made of

its a great part of the country

It would be wrong of me to select one particular day in what I class as a fantastic season.

One common thread that links the majority of special days is the fact that I've been in the company of forum members that I consider 'like minded' & dare I say it, friends.

Reflecting back, this is as important as the fishing itself (well almost).

Roll on next season.

This is my first season back fishing and I have had a great experience and met lots of great people mainly through this forum (thanks guys)

Like Iain and Noel I cant single out a specific day but I can honestly say I have enjoyed every days fishing.

Hard to pick out a single day in an outstanding season, excellent from start to finish.  One of my best.
Not just for the quality of fish, but more for some of the outstanding places i caught them in.

Cheers

Allan
