Morning all!
I have been given the task of sorting out a salt water fly fishing outfit for my dad who lives in Oman.
Iam lost already, anyone able to point me in the right direction for a cheapish setup!
Thanks

Dont think he knows himself but he said alot of people are catching tuna, i will ask him for more details!
He wanted me to post over his old 20 year old 7wt trout rod and i told him it would probably snap so just get something suitable!
Problem is i dont know what would be suitable!

If he is looking at Tuna, a fast action 9wt is the way forward, it will double up nicely as an allrounder for inshore SWFF as well.
The reel Drag is the biggest issue, not the so much the rod, so look at some of the sale list for a rod, quite often some good 9 or 10 wt bargains about, especially this time of the year.
Budget is the next question.
The depth is another question, this affects the line, most flats to high water (which is where you get the tuna) water requires a nice Tropic spec 9wt intermediate , Rio Tropical II or similar is excellent.
Lots of things to think about, and the Knots are a bit different too :z6 this i am learning all the time, usually the hard way :roll

Now thats getting desperate :shock What is he expected to catch with that? :z6

Some decent stuff on here

8wts would probably work well enough as well :z16 loads of them on the list.
incl. an outfit!! :wink probably get by with that :z8
That and a good handful of size 1, 2/0 clousers in Chartreuse/white, tan/white, pink/white and white/white :z18

Of course there is always the possiblity that if you smoked some of Ben's Shit then fly
fishing could take on a whole new meaning :z4 :z4

I'd stick to a full intermediate , it's far more versatile
and you will get much more use of it
mind and get 2 as you never know when you'll need it
I always carry a spare line, coral etc is very sharp and most of these sea critters will run for cover
somewhere nasty :z6
