Title: One from my childhood
Post by: James Laraway on 24/09/2021 at 10:11
So, there was an elderly chap who ran fly tying classes for Newton Stewart Angling Association back in the day, his name was Albert ( i sadly cant remember his surname)
He used to fly fish a lot for wild brown trout and I remember he always used to have a fly on his leader that he called 'The Window Cleaner' - so called as the tail is chamois leather.
I have tried to 'google it' but nothing, so its probably a 'very local' fly

I never tied it myself but here it is:
Chamois leather tail
Gold rib
Peacock herl body
Brown hen hackle

For old times sake I think I will give it a swim

The only fly I can recall using chamois is worm pattern which uses only chamois leather and thread. I imagine when wet, it will have a fair bit of movement, interesting looking fly—nicely tied.
