Hey, Mike, I never really thought about it before, but it's a real nice touch having the photos up on the catch reports.

Means I can prove to my boss I had a day off to go fishing rather than the job interview she thinks I went too!..lol

Haddo seems to be going through the Spring transition at last ...... less trout are being caught on lures and more fish on the surface, the larger fish all being caught on dries

Damsel, Cruncher, Grey Duster, Hares Ear Nymph, CDCs, Bloodworm, Pearly Pennell, Pea Green Buzzer, Hot Spot Spider, Leggy F-Fly, Hares Ear Emerger, Straggle Nymph and a small Daddy have featured in the catch sheets.

Alex Burnett netted a dozen brownies up to 2.5 lb, Ewan Lindsay 9 to 5 lb, Graham Chiverton 7 to 2 lb, Richard Hambly 7 to 2.5 lb and Lee Welsh had 6 to 2.5 lb. Malcolm Mead, Rob Brownfield, Jim Adie and Dave Battie all caught 5 up to 2lb. Ruth Howe was learning the ropes and netted 5 trout up to 3 lb ....... Well done Ruth!

Whats with the red tips to the adipose fins?
A quirk of the Haddo Brown :z8 Or something i've never noticed on other troot :z8

Hi Sandy :z16

Something new that we are seeing this year, yes the fins on quite a few of the trout are getting big red spots on them, especially at the tips.

Cheers
Mike

This is a nice blog about Trout in southern Califiornia, and a nice picture of red spots on an adipose fin.

It never ceases to amaze me how one species can have such a vast range of colours/patterns in the same piece of water

Ahhh..thats me...when I catch a Brownie I mark the adipose with red nail varnish so I know if I catch it again...honest..lol

Even though i believe the bit about the nail varnish, I have my doubts about that confession, there are at least 4 going by the photo's  :z4

I've noticed this week that several of the Browns I've caught at Haddo also have the same red colouration seen on the adipose fin on the mouth as well.

Maybe Rob's putting lipstick on them as well... :shock

When I started fishing as a lad, on the Leuchar Burn, in the Culter area, all the troots I recall catching had the red on the adipose.

It's actually quite a common factor especially amongst more golden browns or later in season during spawning colours.
Dev and Don fish tend not to have them, but i'm sure the Assynt regulars (Hamish, Kevin, Peter) will confirm many waters over there can have striking red adapose fins.
Some wild remote waters i fish are so strikinly red you'd swear they were painted on.
