Where was this photo taken? .........................
and this one? ..... which might give you a clue :wink
(http://i53.tinypic.com/1418ish.jpg)

That bridge is over the urie just upstream of where it joins the don. Think the footbridge is further up the inverurie beat of the don.
-
Aye, well done Noel :z16
The bridge is on the River Ury, just upstream from The Meetings and the wee footbridge is at The Miller, crossing the wee burn as you head up towards The Black Pot, on the Inverurie water of course.
Cheers
Mike
-
How about this one? :)
And yes, it is a trout loch on a very famous estate ;)
-
Ah, I know where that is Rob, just a short walk from a well known watering hole not a million miles from home :wink
I wonder who else will recognise it?
Cheers
Mike
-
Haddo house?
-
Hi Noel
If I'm right ..... and I could be wrong :roll No, it is not on Haddo Estate.
Cheers
Mike
-
we have been there Mike, I guess Clyan's Dam.
bri.
-
we have been there Mike, I guess Clyan's Dam.
bri.
Yes we have Brian, that's where I think it is too, Clyans Dam in Monymusk :z16
Cheers
Mike
-
Indeed it is.
Easiest way to find out where it is is to right click on the picture..it tells you..lol
-
It was the bench that gave it away Rob :wink
-
Right then.... might be a wee bit trickier. We'll see :!
So, where's this :? Which river and which beat :?
H :z3
-
Looks like the water is running from right to left, which means it must be a west coast river ;)
-
Looks like the water is running from right to left, which means it must be a west coast river ;)
Does that not depend on which bank of the river you are standing on Rob? :z4
Cheers

Ah ha ha ha. Best laugh today!

Jim

Ben is right - and so he should be as this is him in the picture before :z7
(http://i55.tinypic.com/2e533tj.jpg)
Rob - I don't think you're going to live that one down :wink
Over to you Ben :z16
H :z3
-
Hi,
I'd go with the Dee too , but only because of the direction it's running in . :wink
Not sure of the beat but Ben could be spot on .
Paul.
:z4
-
LOL - I beat you by a few seconds posting there Paul :!
Ben was indeed correct
H :z3
-
Another one from the library - name this loch if you can :wink
One clue - it's not in Aberdeenshire.
H :z3
-
Difficult one this - does it have a monster ?
-
Loch Lee?
-
It does not have a monster that I know of but isn't all that far away from a Loch which has reputably got more in it than the occasional Wellington bomber ......... :z17
To assist in the guesswork, as I appreciate there are one or two lochs in Scotland :wink I can reveal that this Loch is not on the western side of the great glen. It's also not far from quite a good pike water and not that far from one of the few Rainbow fisheries in the area.
Twitchers have been known to congregate here and get all dewy eyed over a grebe.
Sorry Allan - it's not Loch Lee.
H :z3
-
Rob - I don't think you're going to live that one down :wink
Over to you Ben :z16
H :z3
Hmmmmm :roll That was a quote taken from an ex boss of mine at Shell when we were trying to work out where an old film had been filmed. Because the sea was on the left of the scene he was convinced it was the west coast. I hoped the wee wink would have given it away... :shock
-
Another one from the library - name this loch if you can :wink
One clue - it's not in Aberdeenshire.
Is it Ruthven or another near by??
-
Gold star :z16
It is indeed Loch Ruthven
H :z3
-
Figured I'd pop on one more of these...... bit trickier this one :wink
So folks..... where's this :?
If the first few guesses don't get it right, I'll add clues :wink
H :z3
-
No guesses guys? Looks like we'll need a few clues Hamish (although tempted to guess the Alness)
Allan
-
The Feugh possibly?
Cheers
Mike

No guesses guys? Looks like we'll need a few clues Hamish (although tempted to guess the Alness)
Allan
It's a good guess Allan, but that's not it :wink
The Feugh possibly?
Cheers
Mike
Not the Feugh either Mike - sorry :!
Keep fishing boys...... I'll give you one clue to keep things ticking along.......
The river in question is crossed by the A9 somewhere between Perth and Thurso :z4 :z4 :z4 :z4
H :z3
-
The Braan ?
:z18
Jim
-
The River Garry????
-
Upper Tummel Hamish.
Allan
-
Th Findhorn ?
-
Good guesses all, but they're not right guys :z10
OK, a further clue.
There is a very tenuous link between a beat on the river and a Shakespearean play :z17
However tenuous, I'd have thought it's sufficient a hint to give the game away ???
H :z3
-
No idea about the play :z13
How about the Brora ?
Country loon go's into the Library in Turrif , asks the lady at the desk for a Shakespeare play , which one the lady on the desk retorts. William repies the loon :z4
I'll get my coat
:z18
Jim
-
Another good guess, but still not there.
I'll give a further clue:
The play I have in mind is 'The Scottish Play'

H :z3

Inschewan Burn (SP) ?
If Birnam wood could walk to dunsanane ?

The Dee????

Not the Dee or the Tay :z10
Jim - you're getting there, but not quite right when it comes to geography :wink
H :z3

Where's this, and bonus point to anyone who gives name of specific location name as well as water and where it is?(http://i55.tinypic.com/28m2q0n.jpg)
-
Harray Loch at Ballarat.
Sandy B.
-
Harray correct, but not Ballarat. Clue is in the background buildings.
Come on Sandy practically given it away, in fact if you don't get it right next guess yer oot. :z4 :z4
-
I think I've seen that photo, or a very similar one in a magazine somewhere, but I can't find it :z6
For some reason I first thought it was Ronas Voe, so I guess I'm really lost :oops
Cheers
Mike
-
Not big enough to be the Merkister - although I was drunk at the time . So what's the other one called - Standing Stones ?
-
Loch Harry Nistaben.
Henry
-
Nope guys still not right.
The real clue is the building in the far left, it was named due to the mill wheel being set uo incorrectly and turning the wrong way. Now renovated into a house.
Any more guesses?
-
Mill of Rango,
sorry but had to cheat by looking it up on maps.
Bri.
-
Correct Bri, so now you've got that and we know it's Harray Loch, all we need now is what bit of Harray are you looking at when facing Rango Mill and standing at the point the photo was taken?????

Esslement Bay or is it the Tundra at the back :z4

Close enough, Esselmont Bay, guess Google hasn't spelled it correctly :z4
Well Done Bri, i'll have to think of some harder ones. Now i'm sure i've got some Ronas Hill Tundra photos somewhere :z16

The eastern end of Loch Merkland?

Very close Noel, tempted to give you this but not quite right :wink So close in fact you've hit the woodwork.
Think a wee bit further down the system.
-
Though those hills looked familiar.Must be Loch a Ghriama then?
-
Seems like a reasonable guess to me, never did fish it or Merkland when the folks lived at Lairg :z10
H :z3
-
Yes we have a winner.
Well done Noel, over to you now. Be quick before someone nips in with a joker. :wink

We could solve the "tinypic" hosting issue that some computers have with viewing photos, by hosting the photos directly on the forum if you would all prefer that? I could set up a section in the "GALLERY" specifically for this if you wish?
It would involve uploading your photo in to a new GALLERY section that I would set up and once uploaded, you could view your photo in the GALLERY and right click on the photo to copy the "image URL" and then paste this in your post :wink
Any thoughts folks?
Cheers
Mike
-
No problems from me Mike, it would be good for all to see the pics. As long as it's not too much work.
My guess is the Thurso or Forss by the way.
Allan
-
Beat 8, River Thurso it is :wink
And if you look carefully, I'm fishing the run just beneath the bridge :z7
H :z3
-
Cheers Hamish, the Caithness backdrop was a wee bit of a clue and narrowed down to one of three waters (my next guess was going to be the Wick, although it looked too big for this water in anything but a heavy spate)
Have you ever noticed that the Thurso is a crackin troot stream? Paying a bit heavy to fish it for troots mind. Eddie McCarthy's lot net the troots out and relocate in 'a Cherigull (sp), Eun and Dinne Go (Local name, just check out the closest Gaelic equilivent :z4)
Well at least they claim to do this :roll
Was offered a shot on the Upper Thurso for troots some time back but sadly missed out as, by the time i'd got round all the other waters i was reporting on it was time to head home again :cry
Anyway, as i'm at my work computer just now please feel free to play a joker lads, otherwise you'll all have to wait 'till i get home again later.
Allan

Joker played :z4
A nice easy one :wink ........... Where's this?

Bri

Leven?

I'm pretty sure it's not Lintrathen or Leven but you've got me with this one Baz :z8

Well done Bri it is in fact Lintrathen looking back up the water from just out from the bird hide next to the wee loch :wink
-
Sorry if I'm jumping in but where's this?

No idea on this one, but given my last post i hope it's not Lintrathen this time :oops :oops :z4 :z4 :z4

Loch Nan Lann near Whitebridge?
Come on Dave time for some clues?
Loch coille bharr ??
Nope keep guessing,
It's more than 150ft deep in the middle, and nearly two miles long by up to 400yd wide, In the past, the loch was stocked with Loch Leven trout and they thrived.
Dave
-
It lies on the course of the River ****, which itself is born much further to the west amid the mountains of Gleann Fhiodhaig.
Dave

Loch Dughaill??? Loch Sgamhain??
-
Loch Dughaill??? Loch Sgamhain??
Thought I'd given it away with that last clue.
Keep trying.

You could hardly give it away as its obvious no one fishes it much :z6
I see they have 32 boats and a jeti :z4

Loch Beannacharain or Loch Craggie? :z13
-
Loch Monar ?
:z18
Jim
-
Loch Shin.
-
Following the clues i think i've got it (leven strain troots and River Meig final giveaway)
So (and Mike could actually claim it) i'm going for Beannacharain, but better known as Scardroy (named after the local lodge)
Had a season ticket for this area years back (Achonachie Angling Club) but never explored area near enough. Need to put that right soon, and River Meig needs some serious attention. Loch Meig, however, was a water i was never so keen on for some reason.
Dryflee
PS i'll post another offering later if no-one's beaten me to it (and assuming i've got the right water)

Loch Beannacharain or Loch Craggie? :z13
Well done Mike :z16

Mike
Surprisingly it's not Stu......or Kev
Given that they fished the loch about 20 minutes after we did might give a clue the area of scotland (yes Noel :z4).
-
Hmmmmmm, somewhere in Assynt? Ok i'll go for Croachach (sp?)
Dryflee
-
Nope
-
No idea..... is it near Fort Augustus :?
-
Fionn
-
Sorry Hamish, Alan was closer in suspecting Assynt.
Alan. It really does look like fionn, Kev & I were just discussing that very point last night but no its not. In fact you're getting colder :grin
-
Drumbeg
-
Hi Peter
This one is proving to be a difficult one for folk to name, quite understandable with so many lochs in Assynt.
This looks to me like a very "scenic" loch.
Would that be close enough :z4
Kev
-
Yes but you're barred cos you were there at the same time as the photo was taken. :z4 :z4 :z4 :z7

Loch Farsaat? :grin

Loch Farsaat? :grin

We fish the lochs between Lochinver & drumbeg. This one we call the viewpoint, between Lochinver & clach Tol. No more clues :z4 :z4 :z4

Ahhhhh - I know where you mean (I think) never fished it, always driven by....... :oops
H :z3

It's actually over the hill from the road.
I'll give you guys a fewe more hours then put you out of your misery, unless Kev wants to give the game away :z4
-
Loch Nan Lub (sp) ?
:z18
Jim
-
Good guess but way off the mark.
The answer is Loch Sgeireach which is just over the hill from the viewpoint at the top of the hiil on the road betwen lochinver & clach tol.

Go for it Jim

OK I'll go for something a bit different, Fly Fishing and its and its occasional paranormal manifestations.
Hugh Falkus wrote "Often I know beforehand I am going to catch a fish " that he attributed to Extra sensory perception.
Ian wood in 1957 called it the anglers extra sense.
Who am I quoting on the same subject ?
"It is as if there were some magnetic influence in the angler's confidence, which disposes the Salmon to take the fly"
:z18
