Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone had any luck this weekend? I had a day on the Deveron at the Marnoch lodge beat. First time fishing the beat conditions looked good but unfortunatly no springers got one pull and i landed a seatrout kelt of around 3lb( would have been a nice fish june 09 :wink) heres some photos
Start of the beat directly below the bridge of Marnoch.

The Falconer pool was expecting a fish all the way down, stunning pool really wide for the Deveron the . Got a pull half way down but never connected.

The bottom half of the beat looking up the middle hummies pool. Hooked the seatrout Kelt just below the tree got the heart pumping for a second.

Hopefully better luck next week, might have a go for the trout if my new toy arrives.

Sounds like a good day Calum,
Baz I’m Jealous Menteith is one of those places I’ve always wanted to fish but haven’t got round to it yet same as Loch Leven. How hard is it to get boats on these at the weekends?
Iain the Fario does look good lf you want ill do you a favor and take your Loop reels off your hands £50 a piece and you’ll get a sexy new Fario for next to nothing :z4
My new toy that’s coming is a 6# Scott S4 she’s making her way over from Oregon so hoping customs don’t sting me to much. Hopefully ill get a bash with it on Saturday if it comes, cant wait.

Menteith is pretty simple to get a boat on but when there are comps on you have no chance :z6
If you ever fancy a day out Michael let me know and i will get us a boat :z18
I should be on leven and menteith throughout the season :z16
-
Cheers Baz, that would be spot on :z16
A day on either would be great, just give us a shout whenever you fancy.
You any tips on what to tie up for either?

I will have plenty flies for either water, the lake fishes well all year to buzzers, crunchers, cormorants, snatchers, boobys and blobs!
Loch leven , doubt you will go wrong with traditional wets and humungus's!

Thanks for sharing Wind knot. :z18
Any brownies there?
//Harri
-
Cheers Harri,
The Deveron is quite a good trout river but the brownies dont get fished for much particulary after May as most of the beats are let by the week for salmon. Up to May however day tickets are easy to get hold of and for £10-15 you can fish for salmon or tout on some lovely beats.
Witnessed an olive hatch on the upper river last year while fishing for salmon there were trout everywhere. Cant wait to go back with the tout rod once the weather warms up a bit.

I'd be up for a trip if you fancy a bit of company Michael.

Iain that sounds like a plan,
Give me a shout when you are free. Managed to negotiate with the wife a free pass most Satuardays untill holidays begining of June. Also planning on taking a couple days off late April/ May for the trout once the weather warms up a bit.
The beat i had in minds a cracking salmon beat so if conditions were perfect could be a bit of a dilema salmon / trout. You fished the Deveron much?

Well that was a good bit of action at the weekend and a good learning curve!
Shared a boat with Peter Batchelor ( inventor of the okey dokey and lake specialist) on the lake of menteith on the friday and learned a hell of alot! Had pleny sport and had a very good laugh and learn session! Stopped over in Calendar on the friday night ( got plastered) then got up early sat morning and fished North third in a club outing :wink
North third was not very good to say the least but still teased oot a few troot.
Anyone else out and about :z16

I finally got out with my 3wt yesterday for days fishing with my dad. The 3wt is a pleasure to use. I had a shot of a DT3 and WF4 Barrio line and plumped for the WF4 which suits my novice casting style much better. I couldn't really get to grips with the DT3. I got three nice fish including a nice Brownie. I let my dad have a shot with the 3wt and on the second cast he promptly caught a fish! Whilst he was using the 3wt I was using the 10'6" 7wt, my arm nearly fell off it was so heavy and cumbersome compared to the 3wt. I can't wait to get a chance to use it on the Don next.
Getting a nice bend in the rod

First fish

and a very nice brownie which Mike said he stocked at 1/2lb a few years ago. Estimated at about 2lbs.

All in all very satisfying. And all fish caught on self tied flies too.

Nice brownie Matt
Jim a day on the Deveron would be good I could pick your brains a bit as I haven’t done much river trout fishing.
As for the weekend faffed about trying to nymph Monymusk on Saturday morning/ early afternoon for trout. I was on Beat 4 which I think may be better suited to lower water as much of the beat was belting through. Tried to nymph some of the pocket water that I could wade but I knew I wasn’t fishing very well and hadn’t seen any insects or trout so decided to call it quits and head to Inverurie to get roving season ticket for the Don.
After that had a cast at Inverurie for salmon, water was a bit coloured and high but after only fishing one pool got summonsed by the wife to go see Sound of Music as her sister pulled out last minute :mad
Got revenge Sunday morning as she sat in the car while I fished Lochter :grin. Finished with 10 and lost a few, fishing mostly with a midge tip line with black buzzer on the dropper and damsel on the point. Quite cold and breezy and no fish rising but was good to get out and catch a few fish.
