Title: MPH Swap
Post by: Barry Robertson on 20/12/2008 at 22:42
General Swap Rules
Each tier will tie one pattern for the swap, and will tie one fly for each participant. For example, if you choose a PTN for a nymph swap with 11 participants, then you must tie 11 PTNs and send them to the swap master with a stamp addressed envelope.

The swap master will collect the flies from each participant and then sort them, returning one fly from each participant to everyone involved. Each person in the swap then ends up with 11 different patterns (1 from each tier).

MPH Swap
This swap will consist of Montana's :shock, Pheasant tail's and Hares Ear Nymp's, Oh and diawl bachs :oops.
Ok i know its the festive season and everyone is busy so i dare say once we get the 11 tiers we can set a completion date but realistically it will be for the end of Jan. This will give everyone ample time over the hectic period to complete their flies!
So who's playing  :z4

1.Bigtroot               Flies received
2.Monksmyre           Flies received

6.J Doyle                Flies received
7.Hamish                Flies received

Ok i think charity has had enough flies off of us lately so how about we all tie 11 flies and we can leave the 11th  spot available in case someone is intrested at the last minute.
If no one fills it which i doubt it i will make up the extra set.  :z18

Hi Clark,

Probably best tying something that you have done before and you know catches fish!
Variations are good as it gives us all new ideas on future patterns  :z16

Lots of motivation but lacking inspiration.

just tied a buzzer with stripped Peacock herl (dark stem) wrapped around a bed of pale yellow silk - as a contrast to having the quill as the bright wrap on a black background. Thing is I could have achieved the same thing with a wrap of dark thread so I got annoyed and coloured the whole fly with a red marker - actually looks much better!
Whoever said being bad tempered was a negative! :z4

Looking forward to receiving the other members offerings and trying them out.
One thing came to mind that if we are onto a killing pattern, having only one copy is tempting fate if we loose it. Any body fancy tying another 11 :z4 :z4 :z4

Yes 1 1st class stamp should be plenty, remember that the envelope has to fit through that slot at the post office to qualify
& before you ask I don't mean the letter box slot.

If you were on the look out for a rod you should have said as there are lots of nice cheap new or second hand 'lighter' rods going around....even cheaper than £80.00.

still, I'm sure you'll enjoy it when it arrives.

Can you over do a tail on a pheasant tail? How many strands is normal ????/
Title: Re: MPH Swap
Post by: Sandy Nelson on 17/01/2009 at 21:58
3-5 I would say, would be normal.
Depends what you are trying to achieve :z8

Baz,

I guess that you can overdo it but you'd really have to be silly. I usually use 4 -5 fibres and they look and work fine. Also I guess it looks, from an anglers perspective, better when the tails have a slight 'spread' if you get my drift.

You can always use one of the extra sets I tied to replace the missing set & keep the hooks that are left (the ones that would have gone to Clarky) for the next Charity bundle:z16

Thanks for that Alex , lets just see what happens anyway but wee have more than enough flies to complete the swap.
Any ideas what we will do with the spare set of flies ??? Maybe an auction and money raised to go to River Don Brown Trout Improvement Association ???
Just an idea  :wink

A very generous offer from one and all  :z16
I'd like to suggest that the funds raised from that sale are split 50/50 with the River Don Trust  :z17
Would that meet with everyones approval :?

Title: Re: MPH Swap
Post by: Barry Robertson on 24/01/2009 at 15:42
I think we should be fine for flies thanks Alex  :z16
Here is my thinking  :z6
Normally when we have 11 tiers you should expect 11 flies back to youreself including one of your own flies, i was planning on keeping that 1 fly that you normally get returned to youreself  that you tied youreself as no one really needs 1 of there own flies back.
This will give one more set of 11 and if i add them to clarks 11 that gives us 22 flies for auction which is more than enough i reckon  :z16

But seing as you contributed 4 sets we have 26 flies up for auction in a nice wee box  :z18
