Hi Matt,
I have moved away from braided loops as the line tends to crack just behind where the sleeve of the loop sits due to it being more rigid than the line and with some specialist lines having only a 6" tip, I don't like to loose any!! For lighter lines I nail knot on about 12" of hollow floating mono that is about the same or just larger in diameter than the butt section of my prefered tapered leaders, I put a perfection loop in the end and then loop to loop connect my tapered leaders to that. On heavier lines or lines that will be used with polyleaders I use a modification of Paul Procters method, Paul strips the coating and whips the core back onto the line with tying thread then coats the whole lot in aquasure, this gives a flexible spray free connection. This method is great for looping shooting heads too, I have just whipped one up for Koi Keeper and should have done a step by step, will be doing a few more over the winter so will take some pics when I have the time.
Cheers
Ben
