It was a tale of two trips yesterday.
Sandra had the dentist in town at lunchtime, so i had a couple of hours to burn. Urban trout hunting was the only solution.
I got on the water about 1230 to find a nice hatch of small dark olives and some happily feeding fish.
Lots of cover and crafty casting required, but the rewards were there
Only did an hour but the fish were still rising when i left, so at least there was a decent hatch during the afternoon
After tea i went back down on a different beat, plenty insects about but the fish were were few and far between, until after 10pm then there was a nice steady hatch of medium size sedges, i tried a size 14 emerging sedge pattern again, this time it lasted a bit better
although got quite well chewed. Another Use for Scruffy Buzzer dubbing, pretty versatile stuff and the fish seem to love it.
I had some cracking fish and got broken, which using 5x tippet and a nice soft tipped rod was quite a surprise, but they were very aggressive. Best of the evening went wild and i thought it might be a sea-trout, but it was a another nice brown, it was Pretty dark by then.
Looks like things are starting to get going
