Hi All,
For your information, planning for the 2011 Sexyloops annual Scottish meet is now underway. It will happen in the local area somewhere to be confirmed. The dates are weekend of 13th, 14th & 15th May 2011, get them in your diary now!!
Further updates will appear here and in the announcements forum on the Sexyloops board.
I think we may have a new competition class this year for the shootout this year too :grin
Cheers

If this new class has anything to do with short pink rods, spey lines and distance..... count me in :wink
I appear to be quite handy at that
H :z3

barring accidents i'll be there too ben. I'll need some distance casting lessons before that though after this year :oops
-
Hi folks
I am putting together an open casting competition to be held during the Sexyloops weekend. The Barrio 3D Knockout will be a distance competition with a twist to make things interesting, so you could be head to head with some of the best casters in the world ..... Cool
There will obviously be some cool prizes and the tackle for the competition will be supplied on the day, consisting of my Barrio LC903 3wt fly rods and one of my GT Series fly lines :wink
You are all welcome to join in the fun and if you fancy some training and practice before the event, perhaps Ben and Magnus would help us out with an Outcast meeting or two? :z3
Best wishes
Mike

Or 1000 :z4 Sounds great Mike :z16

Oh, I see, the lads up north get to not only find out exacty what the comp consists of but get to practice it as well.

Hamish, I wouldn't let you loose with a three weight, not one of mine anyway. With your unique action it's more likely to come back looking like a corkscrew.
Mike 120 is a tad optomistic concidering the weather we are likely to have and the casting characteristics of your average #3 rod. You may need to bring several replacements while we give it a go though.
Mike
-
Noooooo ...... replacements cost loads of money! :shock

Hi Mike, you are right of course :z14
Wouldn't it be cool if somebody does 100 with the 3wt ......... :z16

Hi jeroen,
Those dates are final, moved it back a week this year so as not to clash with BFCC and Sportfish weekends. When things are firmed up in terms of venues I will let you know.

Just a wee bit confused!! is Mike is talking bout a different date 7th Nov for the same meeting!!!! :z8. could you confirm what dates are what
-
I can see how it would be confusing if you've not been around on the forum for long so:
The Sexyloops event stands on the dates Ben posted for May - it's entirely seperate from Outcasts. It just so happens that many of the Outcasts attend Sexyloops events and the Scottish Sexyloops gathering is always a popular bash.
So sexyloops and outcasts aren't related. Sort of. Think same characters in a different film.
The November Outcasts bash happened (I think I was there....) with another planned indoors later this month

Not sure what is worst, the entertainment or the cammo jumper?

Great report, nice pics and unbelievable distances with a #3! :z14 :z14 :z14 Is the Colquhonnie still being run by Dave and his friend?
Personal circumstances keep us from coming to Scotland this year sadly, but hopefully things will be better next year so we can join the fun.
Cheers,

You've seen my casting that should give you plenty of ammo!
On a more serious note how was the CTS affinity X rod to cast?

I liked it, in fact..... I liked it a lot :wink Very stiff but boy is it a powerhouse. Not a rod I would choose to fish with, but for chucking a line it's very impressive

Hi Guys, I'm back on board.
The 3 weight contest was the best fun of the weekend, that rod and line combo is just fantastic. Twelve casts over 100ft and topped by a whopping 117'4'' by Fredrik. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed it. It's a great fishing rod as well, I want one. Oh, I bought one :z4.
Thanks Mike for thinking up such a great contest (and the fishing).
Mike
-
Hi Mike :z16
Yes, I thought the 3wt challenge was great fun ........ and the rods survived it too! :shock
Twas an awesome weekend :z3
Best wishes

We held a Barrio 3wt Challenge at the Sexyloops Scottish Gathering in Strathdon last weekend. This was a knockout distance casting competition and it proved to be great fun
The kit consisted of two Barrio LC903 3wt rods fitted with standard 90ft Barrio GT140 WF3F fly lines. Basically, names were drawn from a hat and competitors cast in pairs down the tape for two minutes, whoever cast furthest went through to the next round :wink
The casting was amazing :shock
Fredrik hit 117' 4" :z14
Tamas 102' 3"
Will 103'
Al 97' 8"
Hamish 94' 8"
Totsy 96'
Stefan 111' 11"
Ben 102' 1"
Mike H 107' 4"
Lee 109' 4"
Rhodri 98' 9"
............................. and Fredrik's other casts were 112' 7", 111' 4" and 113' 1"
Fredrik won a Barrio fly reel for first place and Stefan won a Barrio fly reel for second longest cast, since Fredrik would have won both prizes!
Here is a slow motion video of Fredrik making one of his 100+ ft casts in the 3wt competition
